Digital artist who infrequently can scrape enough energy to create stuff. I like to escape with art and draw cute anthros.

  • Imagine waiting all that time and then realizing somehow the hash is wrong, and having to get it again. Genuinely surprised to hear someone using 2G data, given 3G was phased out as is. Didn’t even realize you could. At an average of 21KB/s, I genuinely had a faster internet connection with dial-up when I was a kid, which as I recall reached exciting speeds like 35KB/s sometimes. Misremembered, it averaged 35Kb/s, so it was significantly slower than 2G (4KB/s vs 21KB/s). It also made cool ass sounds when you connected, truly a marvelous experience.

  • I do, and have, posted OC here and to other communities. I pretty much have a rule that this account will only ever post things I’ve made, photos I’ve taken, things like that. This also comes with the caveat that I simply don’t create all that much, and when I do, it’s likely not relevant to a lot of communities anyway.

Only thing I’ve created this past month was an FSF memorabilia action unboxing video of a plush GNU I won. Not exactly the meme centric type of post 196 largely appreciates lol. If I create something I feel fits in the future though, I’ll post it!

I understand what you mean, so many people love to harp on about skill, quality, and commercial viability when they talk about ‘art’ for some reason. Fuck that noise, art is just a genuine desire to express yourself. All I want in this world is for others to feel willing to express themselves, and share it with others—genuine human to human dialogue. No matter what you create, as long as you wanted to make it and express yourself, you are an artist. More than that, a human with experiences who wants to communicate with others, and that is wonderful no matter what.

Please keep creating! From one artist to another, making what you want to is always worth it. Putting yourself out there takes courage, self expression is vulnerable, and people will be hurtful sometimes. Try to remember you are valid, and deserve the ability to express yourself like anyone else. You are an artist! I’m not saying platitudes either, I still remember your comfy sweater post from a couple weeks ago I commented on. Anyway, thank you for creating, and please keep expressing yourself.

  • Do you accept shitty, half-assed, sticky-note doodles?

    Doodle and story behind it

Sticky note doodle of a crudely drawn anthro fox, Foxfire. He is smiling and waving.

I drew this doodle after getting another from a different artist. A little over a year ago, an artist I was following decided to put up a small sticker shop, so I went ahead and got one to show her a little support. The sticker was nice enough when it arrived of course, but alongside it was a personal thank you doodle from her. That gesture of a pure and personal desire to communicate through art is something I treasure dearly. To this day, that doodle is stuck to my computer desk alongside the sticker, and I’m gonna hold onto that little doodle for the rest of my life if I can.

At the time, the doodle inspired me to try and very quickly make something of my own. In my head I imagined maybe spending a minute or so without erasing anything, so I ended up with this. Despite the result, I love seeing it, and I actually stuck him on my door. It was never about the quality, but about the events, emotions, and process that lead to what I expressed. When I see it, I am reminded of that fact every day. I do not lament art being “bad,” I am grateful for everyone who wishes to express themselves through art.

  • Yeah moderation is the toughest part, especially considering this is a very general “just post whatever” community. Especially as it continues to get less obvious, I’d hate to see AI witch-hunt type comments against either actual artists, or maybe a random person dropping a saved meme they didn’t even realize was generated themselves. For a place I mod which is largely populated by art posts (furry_irl) I opted to require artist credit in the title or post body when applicable, but that seems like it could be a bit tedious for 196.

I think the best case would be something like “we reserve the right to remove posts we believe are machine generated,” but also “do not attack others about it, discuss tactfully, send reports for posts you reasonably believe are generated instead for moderator discretion.”

Just think, those Neanderthals are going to be obsolete now that we can generate infinite pictures of hands on cave walls! Human condition? Self expression? Lmao no one cares old man, get with the times and consume! I don’t want any human interaction anymore, I have my black box that will do whatever I tell it to!

(/s In case the Overton window is that fucked already.)
