I really wonder how they count this. Does this count children above 18 living at home? Do they magically assign ownership to people who have been in the same abode for more than 5 years or something? The majority of people I know are renting and if societies have ~30% < 35 y.o how can the rest all have homes? That doesn’t seem possible.

On a more serious note, what does the donation situation look like for this instance? Demanding more time from an admin is a little bit hard if people aren’t donating and the admin has a life beyond the instance. Probably getting more people on board would be the solution, but that requires trust.

It’s just like subscribing to a subscription folder which contains all “politics” communities. That doesn’t mean the folder cannot be changed by the client. The client could easily have the feature to exclude communities from the folder or ignore blocked communities.

There could even servers that provide filtered community groups/folders.

Cross-server communities would maybe be a better name. As in !196 would aggregate from all the communities named “196” on the fediverse.
