Yeah, the site is mean. The doomerism is also really strong here. I should probably just try to cut out social media entirely. It’s not good for me.

32·1 year agoLmfao not a straw man in sight in my comment. Do you know what a straw man is? I asked a simple question to expand on your position, and you dodged and mocked me (in three separate comments) because I guess you had a bad day. Eat a dick.

Are you just making things up? I can’t find anything about railroad crossings tearing up fire hoses. From the fireman who posted the image:
Hey, this past week our funny photo went viral throughout the whole world. Thousands of shares and likes in many different countries! Once and for all: the picture was taken in Belgium, in a small village called Bornem. After a minor intervention, we had some time left near the railway to make this picture. Since there were no trains running at all for a week due to maintenance works, we can state that our joke was a real success! Thanks to our entire team, 2nd sqdn Firefighters Bornem!

asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Visiting the US soon - do I really have to tip?
233·2 years agoYep, 100% the asshole if you’re eating out at restaurants here and you don’t tip. Other things can be a little more debatable, but the 15-20% standard for eating at a restaurant is set in stone. If you don’t tip or give a low tip, the server will assume you hated their service or that you’re just an ass. It’s a dumb rule, but it is what it is here right now.
The internet’s practically unusable without it now. We’ll always be in this rat race with advertisers and such. If I have the technical ability to circumvent every advertisement, I’ll do it. Advertisers get plenty from the people without the tech know-how, and I directly support creators that I want to support. Maybe a bit of a “f you I got mine” position, but whatever. Zero guilt.
I use Arch btw.
It’s just clean and simple. I’ve never had a problem with reinstalling things, so I love the idea of a bare-bones operating system where I can install what I need and nothing else. I swapped to Manjaro for a while because my last attempt at arch became unstable, but I’ve got a good 8 or so years of Linux under my belt now. I feel much more comfortable maintaining rolling release. Also the AUR is unmatched. I’m spoiled by it.

I’m annoyed with how mastodon works and I don’t think it’s ever going to change, so I might give bluesky a try.
