Depending on the whistle style, 3D printed ones range from 2 to 7 cents per whistle (not counting the up-front cost of the printer). Bulk ordering of commercial whistles ranges from 12 to 35 cents, and may or may not include customization options like putting an ICE reporting number on the whistle.

You scale this up to thousands or tens of thousands of whistles, and now we’re talking about getting whistles into the hands of many more community members for the same cost.

It’s not just about the money though. 3D printing whistles gives more people a way to get involved in the resistance. And in order for any resistance movement to be successful, it needs broad-based public support and engagement.

    FAQ:

Q: So where is the march to/from?

A: It’s a loop march, leaving at 1 p.m. after the rally (which itself starts at noon). The march begins at Seattle Center and ends at Seattle Center.

Q: Is this going to be … a big one?

A: Yes, hundreds of thousands of people in Seattle, millions across the U.S. Likely larger than the last No Kings protest.

Q: What can I do besides just waving a sign and marching around?

A: There will be folks from local resistance organizations at tables before/after the march, ready to give you the information you need to join and take action.

Q: Who will the speakers be at the rally?

A: Zenia Javalera (SEIU Local 6 President), Representative Pramila Jayapal (U.S. Congresswoman), Tariq Ro’ouf (Palistinian-American writer/activist/poet), Girmay Zahilay (King County Council Chair), and more.

While peaceful protests are awesome, and this march/rally is indeed intended to be a peaceful protest, “Riots are the language of the unheard” --MLK Jr. So personally I try not to police how people want to express themselves. I see riots as a kind of inevitable reaction… You press your boot hard enough onto the neck of a populace, and violence will be the result.

Additionally, “violence” is super subjective and often reported inaccurately in the media. Is resisting arrest violence? Helping someone else resist arrest? Is returning a smoke grenade to its owner? How about zip-tying Lime bikes together? Blocking the path of a vehicle holding immigrants?

My point is just that it’s not all black and white. (And to be clear, I don’t expect any of this stuff at the Saturday protest.)
