For rimmless glasses they have shapes supplied by the frame manufacturer that the machine can follow. But usually the shape isn’t that important for rimmless glasses so they can likely find a shape in their stock that is similar enough to your current glasses shape.
That doesn’t really explain how you get the lenses cut to the shape of your 3D printed frames. I guess the local shop also does that for you?
Indeed. A long time ago I worked as an internship in one of those places, and cutting the glasses requires special equippment to follow the sample shape and get rid of all the fine dust that is produced while grinding them down. But the work done is usually quite cheap compared to the cost of the glasses themselves, so that is definitly not something I would DIY.
I know someone that runs Ubuntu Touch as his daily driver on a FP5 and seems to be happy with it.

There is also white wood-filler. For small scratches it might be good enough to hide the damage.

2·3 months agoSo I was researching this for another project and it looks like there are so called “Boost charge controllers” that can take various solar panel inputs and even output a higher voltage for battery charging (normal charge controllers don’t do that). There is for example this one that comes with a convenient switch to output different charging voltages.

6·3 months agoWhat I am wondering is about this wood beam. I know there are costly chemicals for restoring wood which has been broken down by water. The stuff is supposed to penetrate into the wood and re-harden the fibers
My guess would be that this is just pure epoxy (not the two component epoxy glue you normally buy that includes plasticisers etc.). Epoxy can penetrate wood quite well, but you need to make sure the wood is really dry again before attempting this. Probably needs several weeks of drying.
Or train your children to not pee in the pool 😜
Get some aluminum sulfate (and something to adjust the pH for it) to flocculate those micro-algae.

(2) And some stuff like the camera api is different from what mainline linux uses, so you need a special camera app etc. And the Android kernels lacks some features like virtualisation afaik.
(6) I haven’t tried it, but it seems to be mainly for running desktop linux distributions.
(8) Again, device specific. There are basically no standards in the ARM space for that, especially for old Android devices.

- Unlikely but can happen. Some vendors like Fairphone will fix it for you if you send it in for service.
- No that is not true, but the most popular Halium based distribution (Ubuntu Touch) has some other peculiarities that make this harder than it should be. They have experimental Snap support now though.
- Ubuntu Touch is a good start as it supports many devices that are cheap to get. Dual booting is quite hard to do, so not something for beginners.

- Android has a lot of hardware specific battery optimizations. But overall it isn’t that bad… the people that complain probably got an old device for testing with a bad battery.
- I think that is a feature in the latest Android 16.

2·3 months agoHmm, odd that this one has 84V output. That’s AFAIK beyond the typical 48V battery charging voltage.
The problem with converting back and forth is both efficiency and that you need a seperate buffer battery (or at least super-capacitor).
IMHO, maybe the best idea is to just buy a so called balcony solar kit to feed into your regular home power circut and then charge as usual from a regular outlet.

Not hundert percent sure, but you are probably dealing with a nominally 48V battery pack.
Instead of converting back and forth DC/AC/DC, I would look for a solar charge controller that can charge 48V Li-ion battery packs.
The only problem might be finding a suitable plug if you don’t want to cut it off your existing charger.
