Flawed characters are definitely MT’s strengths compared to all other soulless wish-fulfillment power fantasy trash isekais out there. Yeah I feel you on I can’t recommend this to anyone coz of its weirdness but I would take this compared to the hot garbages. I have been told the elf plays more role later in this season and is not a one trick pony so chill out for now.

Glad to hear the elf gets a real roll. I feel like she had a sorta okay roll in season 1 but the first part of season 2 just treats her as a pire sex.object and nothing else. It’s cringe.

My problem is not that the show is weird, it’s that it’s weird in a way that makes me feel like the author is actually a sexual predator lol. Like I wouldn’t even be surprised if he would be locked up for it.

Plenty of animes to name who didn’t have to take this path to write strong and deep character plots. And just because it’s skewed and morally edgy doesn’t mean it’s deep. It rather seems sometimes that anime authors use this element to blur over their lazy writing.

But MT doesn’t even need it, as it’s a fine anime either way. F.e. the father son dynamic and how he doesn’t care about his ‘own’ family… it’s so we’ll written imo. Also the part where he keeps the family together even tho his dad f’d the housekeeper. The series has great emotional intelligence and does not depend on predatory perspectives to work well.

I certainly hope that author is not a sexual predator. But one author I would certainly be more cautious of would be Made in Abyss author. I have no idea how, but that show despite subjecting the audiences to some of the most fucked up shit, still leaves an subtly beautiful impression.
