A Joint Base Lewis-McChord Army captain was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to secretly administering an abortion drug to a pregnant junior enlisted soldier he was dating, causing her to miscarry their unborn child.

Capt. Brandon Jones-Adams, 34, entered the guilty plea during his court-martial on June 24 at the Cascade Court Complex at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, according to the U.S. Army.

Jones-Adams also pleaded guilty to domestic violence, fraternization and conduct unbecoming of an officer.

A military judge sentenced him to 12 years in prison, ordered the forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and dismissed him from the Army. Under his plea agreement, he faced between four and 12 years of confinement.

A dismissal is the military equivalent of a dishonorable discharge for commissioned officers.

Unfortunately most people probably won’t read past the first paragraph, but this seems to me to be disingenuous reporting. The lead mentions only one of four serious charges under the UCMJ and buries the other three charges as an “oh, by the way” sentence in the third paragraph.

This dude was sentenced to 12 years for four serious crimes, not one, but the article makes it sound as if only one was important.

This is why it’s important to read the whole article.

Seems to be a really big issue on Lemmy ngl. I’ve been quoting full paragraphs from articles in comments because no one wants to actually read. I prefer to keep the titles of the articles I post for transparency and so I don’t inject my own viewpoint by editing the titles.

And lemmings want to believe they’re better and smarter than the average social media user lol

You make an excellent point. My intent wasn’t to criticize you and I’m sorry if I came across that way. I was set off entirely by the way the article was written. I probably could (should?) have left it at “read the entire article,” but I never seem to use a sentence when a paragraph will do.

Oh I didn’t take it that way! Just wanted to add on to your comment :)

Well that and I post a lot in this community and wanted to drop a note about why I use the titles from the articles lol
