Best music discovery I’ve had was a thread on the something awful forums maybe 2 decades ago. People would post their favorites or ones they wanted similar artists to, and folks would chime in with suggestions. I discovered so much music in that thread, stuff that has become my core favorites. I learned about Chromeo in that thread (back when Needy Girl was new) and they have been in my top 5 or 10 ever since.

I do enjoy the Apple Music suggestions, but finding new is so much slower and more hit or miss.

There should be a site for community driven music suggestions similar to that old thread. Especially nowadays when so much is independent and obscure.4

No shit, my boy wanted a Barbie when he was little, so he had a Barbie. He also had Legos, and played with blocks, board games and eventually video games. Let kids play with whatever the fuck they want to, they are exploring.

I don’t know, my mom brought me some Carolina reaper sauce from the UK a couple years ago. It was pretty good, but it was not the reaper level I was used to. I kinda loved it since I could eat it by the tablespoon and feel tough as nails.

Update- for the record, the ingredient label of it read “Carolina reaper paste, salt”.

Disclaimer: this is how long progress takes. People used to plant trees knowing they would never get to enjoy their shade.

I mean, that was the entire premise of the show, a good person who breaks bad. You are supposed to like him, and supposed to have complicated feelings about his character arc as he devolves deeper and deeper into the dark side. Of course there will be moments during the arc when you still root for him as the badass but that should all be gone by the end, when he’s just a bad guy who got a deserved end.

It’s a tough one these days because if this was an absurd art piece I would love it too. However, if this was an average AI fuckup, it’s still funny, but more in the funny weird sense. Yeah, I still kinda like it, but the element of human creativity is gone, and that’s precisely what I love about it, imagining how they would come up with this confusingly hilarious thing. Plus, I can’t stop myself from thinking about all the implications of AI, including the amount of wasted resources for generating this thing.

I think that’s was pisses me off the most about AI, it’s ruined my ability to just appreciate things, now it’s all so fucking complicated.

It was my favorite Star Trek since TNG. It is part of the canon in my head.

Right, I subconsciously rip off all my tags and even try to buy things without them… I always figured they were meant to be removed because they are so annoying.

Yeah, could be. I still have some old stuff though (my grandpas shirt which has got to be 50 years old). I don’t wear it much, but I still wash it when I do…

Yeah, cold for everything except whites (they get warm plus bleach). Else these days I do still try to separate them into dark and light colors. Jeans do still fade but it doesn’t transfer to the rest.

It must be detergent or washers are easier on clothes. Growing up, all my clothes eventually became the same dirty pink color when I’d wash colors together. These days I just dump everything in and toss in some laundry soap, maybe some softener if we have it around, and I still have clothes that are 20 years old and in regular rotation. Colorful as always.

One of my family members got into the “blue-green algae” fad (about 5 years after it fell out of mainstream). It was too expensive so they bought the horse algae from veterinarian supply. He said it was exactly the same, as long as you could put up with the grit.

These people exist (and I’m related to them).

all the “by the book” bullshit is there for cover. I felt the same way, like it needed to be done right, because the system would hold. it’s very, plainy obvious to me now, especially 6 months in and seeing them fight harder against a winning candidate in their own party, than they do the criminal authoritaran, that it’s all part of the same machine.

Yes, but in the end I spent all this time disabling notifications, when I bought the thing to show me them… I just realized I don’t need that alert immediately and in fact led to me ignoring them since they became just another annoyance (phone, computer and watch all told me the same thing). It became a negative productivity tool.

I was so excited about Apple Watch. Thought how great it would be to not have to take my phone out of my pocket anymore; less screen time, right?

No, it’s just this bullshit. More noise, more alerts, more digital cruft. I put the thing on the charger a couple years ago, been there since.
