Because who cares? It’s the content that matters, not how the profile looks of the person who posted it.
I didn’t have one on reddit. I don’t see the need to have one here. As someone else already mentioned, I barely pay attention to usernames, let alone profile pics. I care about what you’re saying. Not what you or your profile look like.

After years working in telecom, I’m in the camp of “absolutely no device needs to cost thousands of bucks.”
Midrange phones do just fine, and it’s borderline criminal marketing that the Apples and Samsungs of the world convince gullible consumers that their 260 dollars worth of parts and labour is somehow worth more than an average mortgage payment.
People have become so jaded from years and years of corporate monopolizing, they no longer remember what an internet run by real humans feels like.
I’m not saying that in order to excuse them. Quite the opposite. To make this whole “federated” thing work, we all have to remember the empathy we lost dealing with the Facebook’s and Twitter’s of the world.
An internet run by the people for the people is by nature going to have more empathy’ and therefore more risk of hurt feelings. We need to be aware of that.
Personally I doubt I’ll delete my account on Reddit. But as someone who will cling to old.reddit.com and adguard to the bitter end, I’ll happily let my account gather dust unless there’s a support question or something for a community that hasn’t taken off here.
Keeping Reddit as a backup will at least being me some productivity back. I’m supposed to be a writer, I would probably get more actual writing done.
I don’t think it’s too abstract for people. I think we’re all just really bad at explaining it to non-techies.
When you move to a city, choosing the neighborhood you want to buy your house in doesn’t stop you from being able to drive around looking at others.
It ain’t rocket science.
I just keep an eye on all of them.
Eventually this whole thing will sort itself out and the snowball effect will see some communities get bigger while others fall to the wayside. It’s a natural progression.
Duck Duck Go. It just works for me. I’ve never had a problem with it’s results.
Good so far. The one and only Android app available for it is serviceable, though not without issues. Other than that, if usage picks up I can see myself spending more time here.
