  • Envy is an interesting one, I think this is usually based primarily on the ‘Golden Calf’ story.

There’s a bit of context that makes that story much more interesting. The stories that eventually led to what we think of as the christian god depict god as a bull. It brings up the possibility that the story wasn’t calling out against worshipping other gods but instead a warning against reverting back to old ways, changes how you approach the story.

Historical evidence there is really all over the place though, there’s a LOT of other interpretations and possibilities.

  • That looks like damage to the plastic coating, blast from the past, but you could just throw them in a resurfacer if you can find one, every resurface will be less reliable than the one before it though.

May not be worth it, how old are these? My knowledge is maybe out of date, but if it’s a dvd-rw opposed to a generic dvd-r, the usable lifespan used to be pretty limited. In theory, manufacturers claim 10-25 years based on their accelerated testing methods, but in actual lifespan, some data hoarders were seeing numbers average as low as 2 years for large collections. No good studies out there I’m aware of though. I used to have all of my media on dvd-rs and almost all of mine were showing read errors after 5 years, even the ones from the good manufacturer, this was back in… 2010ish.

There’s a lot of books out there that I think are famous because they’re exceptionally shitty just in a different way than is typical. Same way I personally feel about Ulysses, It’s not a literary puzzle, it’s just a shitty book where the author tried something stupid and then just kinda kept going. I think Nabokov is a bit more effective, but it’s along the same vein.

  • Anything reaching those kind of numbers is probably a music video or some sort of nursery rhyme set to music. Youtube is mostly a music service.

Beyond that, there’s a grammarly ad that hit over 500 million views, wonder how much they spent on that and a lot of random memes. It’s real difficult to find the most viewed real non-music, non-kids, non-ad video. Probably still Charlie Bit my Finger (again). Except Mr Beast, not many others regularly topping 100M.
