French-Canadian here! If you like prog rock, you should check out Harmonium! I recommend their album “Si on avait besoin d’une cinquième saison”, here’s my favourite song of theirs.

Another classic is Beau Dommage, a folk rock group (with a bit of prog influence). Song recommendation: Le Géant Beaupré

To plug a more contemporary artist, P’tit Belliveau is an Acadian artist from Nova Scotia who does stuff influenced by traditional Acadian folk but with a lot of modern pop and electronic sound. I absolutely love everything he puts out, but check out RRSP/Grosse Pièce. His music videos are always stellar as well.

God Bobcaygeon is such a good song. I’m not a huge Hip fan (I know, I know, sacrilegious to say as a Canadian) but I’ll always bop to Bobcaygeon. It inspires such a feeling of nostalgic melancholy. Makes me want to go hug someone I love or something.

Like you say, reliance on a highly globalized technological market is the result of historically anomalous geopolitical stability.

It’s like reddit but the reddit part works like email. You can get emails from yahoo.com on your gmail, just like you can interact with users and communities hosted on different instances.

I love it when I’m already using something open source without even knowing it’s open source! Joplin is a great recommendation, I’ve always struggled finding note taking apps that strike a good balance between power and convenience.

I’ve noticed I’m spending more time looking at content that I actually want to engage with.

I’ve also been on a huge FOSS hyper-fixation for the past week after replacing reddit with Lemmy. I’ve stopped using Youtube in favour of an open-source front end (Piped), I finally ditched Windows as my main OS and set up EndeavourOS, found an open-source Spotify front-end for desktop (psst) as well as an alternative for mobile (ViMusic).

Yeah I posted know this question had been asked in the past few days, but maybe a mod here could make a daily post for new communities? There’s going to be a lot of new communities created in the next few days, so it’d be neat to have a daily post to help with discovery, either here or on another of the larger communities.

I created !bicycles@lemmy.ca as a generalist cycling sub, hoping to recapture /r/xbiking’s spirit of inclusion and enthusiasm about bikes, but being open to a wider variety of types of cyclists; commuters, tourers, roadies, MTB, fixies, whatever!

I also made !psychedelics@lemmy.ca for learning and sharing experiences about psychedelic drugs!
