  • What mechainc brings their tools out of the shop and into the bathroom with them? Maybe the crescent wrench was used in the bathroom to fix a dripping fixture or something.

I’ve also definitely gotten nearly that dirty before. If i don’t degrime an engine before working on it, all that thick black built up grime will eventually end up on my hands and forearms. As i scratch myself or wipe sweat the grime slowly covers most of my body. I also often have to lay on the dirty shop floor or driveways which can also contribute to getting filthy.

  • Gotta have capital to run a shop. When you struggle to buy a shack to live in, you’ll also struggle to put a van on a road, own a shop to operate, buy enough materials and equipment up front.

Ive been at my new position for nearly a year and im doing great. Im going to make it clear to my boss soon that if he wants to keep me, i need to make enough to enter the housing market.

  • Im smart enough i could make good money at a desk job, but i just can’t do that. I gotta move during the day, i like using my muscles, i hate sitting still for hours on end. Ive ended up in trades and these jobs are nice because they can be physical but also need my brain. I just wish I was paid better. Im often working in homes of very wealthy people providing an essential service (drinking water) but I will struggle to own a shack at my wage.

  • Growing cattle has also had a massive impact on the environment. And you often need more land for animal based materials because you both need land for the animals and the land to grow food for the animals. With cotton at least you just need land for the cotton.

  • I doubt I’d have been able to move cities and change careers without renting an apartment. I think there is a role for landlords in society, but I also think a lack of regulations and poor housing/urban planning laws has blurred the lines of that role and pushed the priority into profits over everything.

There are valid reason to want to rent over owning such as short term employment, college/university, or just feeling out a city/area before commiting to a property.

  • Maybe I would tip a landlord that goes above and beyond their role, but I’ve yet to meet one that even really does the bare minimum in maintaince, most hire out to avoid any responsibility.

My place was “professionally painted” which is why most of my floors, baseboards, windowsills and even my kitchen counter have paint stains on them. My “luxury apartment” that he advertised had mice coming in through some easy to patch holes in the wall. My driveway is literred with trash from previous tenants which I eventually picked up after his maintaince guy kept sweeping it to the side. I have no ventalation in my kitchen which can be a health hazard while cooking. The small lawn area got mowed once last summer and only after the city posted a notice to maintain it.

If a landlord wants to be tipped for “exceptional service” maybe they should be doing more than the bare minimum of collecting rent and paying property taxes.

  • Parking minimums are the stupidest regulation to ever exist, especially given the entire regulation is based on very little data and evidence of parking requirements.

How the fuck did “buy your neighbouring building, tear it down, and pave surface level parking lots” become the norm to start a business?
