In reasonably confident that this is how people ask for a cola, not for any soda pop. The default soda in America is a cola, which we have the two primary brands (coke and Pepsi) and all the small time competitors. No one says ‘I’ll have a coke’ when they want a sprite.

If you go to Georgia, ‘coke’ is whichever cola they have. At least that’s been my experience when visiting family down there. 99% of the time you get Coca Cola, but that 1% is a kick in the nuts.

Had the same experience when I lived in east Texas and visited rural Louisiana. But it wasn’t that way when I lived in Virginia. Coke meant Coca Cola, and if you asked for coke and they had Pepsi, they’d ask if Pepsi was ok.

In western Washington, it’s a hodgepodge.

  • I’m trying to remember how many, but when I was 19 I worked at Starbucks and wanted to see how many shots I could handle in a day. I had a rare 8 hour shift and my memory wants to say it was 23 shots, but I’m really skeptical about that number since my memory during those years I pretty foggy due to some serious depression. I’m positive it was in the teens at least though.

To say that day sucked is an understatement.

  • I bootstrapped my way through college because poor family. But at 40 I’m making more than all but one cousin in my entire extended family, aunts/uncles/grandparents all make less than me because none of them went to college save for that one cousin. My degree was in organizational communication and was absolutely the thing that opened the doorway for me, and as much as I loved the major, it’s technically useless.

I’m trying to create balance by going the other way. I started my Halloween decorating in September and it’s staying up through Christmas. And I’m having a Halloween Christmas from now until I die since my ex-wife doesn’t have a say in it anymore. I actually found some Halloween tree ornaments at Michael’s yesterday and gobbled up a few packs. Next year I’ll try to snag a Halloween tree too depending on how the new cat treats the Christmas tree this year.

Again, I’m not saying porn addiction doesn’t exist.

I’m saying that the use of ‘addiction’ with porn is extremely overused and most people who claim to be addicted aren’t.

And for what it’s worth, I quit smoking after three years of up to 2 packs a day in a single day. Just made the decision and never craved them again. Every body handles substance dependencies differently. But porn addiction is different and the comparison is apples and oranges.

And I’m saying that what’s described in the OP is a habit, not an addiction.

‘Addiction’ is very overused when it comes to porn because people don’t have any concept of what addiction actually is. Half the time the harm doesn’t come from looking at porn, it comes from the purity culture that we’re inundated with in western society. Being abused by puritanical ideology does not make looking at porn an addiction. Neither does having a strong sex drive that makes us want to engage with sexual content.
