Generally you would use flakes to enable third party repos, although there are ways to do it without flakes. With flakes, third party repos work basicallly the same way as the main repo. Chaotic Nyx is one repo, and it also explains how to set it up. There’s also ones like Nixified AI.

Cool, compiling it right now

I’ve been using NixOS for two years, and I’m not as hyped as I used to be. I’m a little nostalgic for my first days trying out Mint and Manjaro, and I’d like to try out Kinoite and maybe Guix on another drive, but I don’t think I could ever switch to using those permanently.

Setting dotfiles through home manager is nice, especially since they’re synced between my pc and laptop, and if I ever need to reinstall or set up a new device it’s all there. It doesn’t seem that cool after getting used to it, but just editing plain config files seems pretty messy and unorganized after using home manager. Flakes are pretty cool and being able to nix run any program without installing it is nice.

My impermanence setup is a little annoying though, and since I use Syncthing to sync my KDE dotfiles between devices that can bug out sometimes, but it seems nicer and more organized than not having impermanence so I don’t think I could go back there either.

Hell yeah

Especially for things like built-in functions or nixpkgs functions, all those programming aspects of the Nix programming language. Noogle and the Nix Pills helped a little but not a whole lot.

Apparently they still get auto-mounted even if they aren’t in your config. You can check the wiki.

There’s probably a cleaner way to do this, but you can look at abstractions as a way to reduce all that code repetiton.

Eh, whenever I looked at /popular or /all it seemed to be full of angry things like r/mildlyinfuriating or r/trashy and other stuff like politics which was just angry divisive stuff. I like the more chill and tech-focused things here.

The only person I’ve actually supported is HisAnimations, who ported a ton of TF2 models and assets into Blender, as well as other Source game assets like Portal and stuff.

I’ve also been meaning to support Value Select, who makes funny song sort of skits similar to Jazz Emu.
