LemmySoloHer: Across the Fediverse
Oh nice! I was definitely enjoying it from the start but I think it’s about partway through Season 1 when Izuku and Uraraka were paired up against Bakugo and Ida that got me. I loved seeing Izuku use his strategic intelligence to make up for his lack of quirk control; I was so excited at him predicting and easily countering Bakugo’s opening right hook.
And the Season finale episodes with the villains invading UA is what finally sent me into full binge mode. Aizawa taking on all those villains by himself had me cheering (even Shigi had to admit how cool he is) and Izuku’s careful assessment of the situation allowing him to figure out how to use his and Tsu’s quirks to overcome the water area villains was so clever that I was all in and never left.
Some of the episodes I’ve rewatched the most are in Season 2, it’s quite the ride and I hope you enjoy it! If you ever hit a point where you need to talk about something in the show but have no one to talk to it about, feel free to reach out as there isn’t a ton of discussion for it on Lemmy and I’m always happy to discuss MHA. Go Beyond, Plus Ultra!
It’s so good at what it does, it’s one of those shows that gets me so energized that the soundtrack is now a regular part of my workout playlist. Where are you at in the series so far? And is there a specific episode/moment where you started to really get hooked?
I’m pretty sure Neil Gaiman enjoys milk and cookies, he even wrote the story Fortunately, The Milk where a kid goes back in time to get the ever-important milk that his father forgot to pick up.
Ugh this is me. I used to love spicy food but something happened a few years ago where it switched to just destroying me.
All it takes is a little bit and I’m sent into an uncomfortable, mouth-searing sweating fit for essentially the rest of the day. I’ve got bottles of alcohol-based mouthwash like Listerine stocked up since it’s one of the few things that helps in those times when I accidentally get a hit of the ol’ spicy stuff. Once I do that and wash off my lips with face cleaner I’m alright, otherwise I’m struggling to keep hydrated because I’ll sweat for hours and hours.
Finally went to see an allergist that found a ton of underlying allergies and thinks that having all those go untreated is what increased my sensitivity overall. I’m currently getting the allergy immunotherapy shots and hoping that results in some regained resistance to capsaicin. It’s super embarassing to be out and start sweating like a maniac when I get a bite of an appetizer I didn’t know had pepper extract or one of those steaming plates of hot spicy stuff that sends a pepper cloud in my face and just leaves me drenched the rest of the night.
@Pillagenplunder@lemmy.world has the go-to suggestion: you can’t go wrong with giving Avatar: The Last Airbender a shot. I don’t know if I’d say it has similar themes or notes to Demon Slayer but it is an absolute winner.
I also highly recommend the movie Spirited Away if you haven’t watched it together yet. It’s got some similar themes and notes more suitable for the whole family. Instead of stopping demons with violence, Spirited Away finds diplomatic ways to deal with spirits. Also just a masterpiece of a movie.
I’m having trouble thinking of similar anime series for a younger audience but there are some other anime-inspired (like Avatar: TLA) cartoons that deal in similar themes. Steven Universe follows a group of heroes that stop corrupted gem creatures in hopes of curing them. And Star Vs. The Forces of Evil is about a Sailor Moon-like princess from a magic realm that travels to Earth and fights the forces of evil with her best friend trained in karate.
SophistiCATed.
The dichotomy of needing an egg in these trying times vs being in trying times because you already have one.
This seems like something Kelvin would do on The Righteous Gemstones.
