  • These posts about people needing pickup trucks are so funny to me, I live on the side of a mountain and my village has one paved road and 5 unpaved roads leading away from it.

The most popular vehicle used by tradespeople and farmers here is the Citroen Berlingo. Before that, Citroen C15, and before that the Renault 4 (still see quite a few of those around).

My Renault Clio has zero problems on unpaved mountain roads.

I have no idea why Americans need or want such big trucks.

  • I’m skeptical that many conservatives have dynamic and complex inner worlds … I don’t see much evidence that they think much about anything, but rather offload as much as possible onto others. My mother, as she gets older, appears to actively avoid thinking for herself and has begun the decline into right-wing thinking. She likes the Daily Mail to do her thinking for her.

  • My working theory is that the Shire is the only part of middle earth where hereronormativity is the default.

That’s why the Kingdom of Men ended up with so many rings of power, he originally offered two to the Commune of Women but they politely refused because accepting expensive jewelery from a creepy older man would set a bad example to the children.

Meanwhile the men thought anything that made other men kneel before them would result in a happy ending.

While the Hobbits were getting The One Ring to Mt. Doom the women were oblivious to the sausage fest and busy upgrading their gloworm trail.

  • It depends on where you are and what sort of job you’re applying for as to what constitutes good advice.

If you’re nervous, are there any things that you can do which would help you feel in control? Some people meditate, some drink a bit of herbal tea, some listen to a particular type of music. Some might get a friend to take them through an interview roleplay, though you really need a friend who actually understands interviews for that to work.

The main thing to remember is that if it doesn’t go well the world won’t stop spinning … there will be other jobs, other interviews, and practice really helps!

One community on an instance, the users of that instance (who partake of The_Donald, for instance) are users of all federated instances. Thus if federated they would have fun by turning every other available community into an unpleasant experience.

As a reddit example, after posting on archery and motorcycle related subs I received threatening and sexual messages. Beehaw is the first place I’ve seen that actively wants to avoid that from day one, and I really hope it succeeds. Being cautious over defederation has been a big plus point for me.
