Hi! I’m British, I like music (grime, garage, hip-hop, R&B, and more!). I like art, culture, history, politics, & doomscrolling memes.
Also a touch of programming :)

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK if you browse Lemmy on desktop/in browser, the Lemmy Universal Link Switcher script makes browsing between instances significantly less annoyingEnglish

Click this and then try to post a comment. There’s the issue.
The script redirects all links to your home instance. You posted that comment from https://lemmy.zip/ which is where you have your account, hence no issue. If I link you this post from another instance (see above), you won’t be able to interact.

LibreWolf @lemmy.ml•How do you fix missing characters from uncommon scripts? I already have Noto Sans Newa font installed on my computerEnglish
1·9 months agoIs there a way to change this behaviour?
Unrelated to this but worth noting that Sync will be broken in the soon to come 1.0 update for Lemmy. The dev for Sync is awol. Might be worth checking out the other apps like Boost for Lemmy, Summit, Thunder, Jerboa, etc.
No, but you can export your data/subscriptions through your settings, sign up on another instance and import it. But moving posts/comments over, no.

Podcasts@lemmy.ml•Anyone have some good history podcasts to recommend?
3·10 months agoI’ve heard both of these! HoR was my first ever podcast. Fall is absolutely fantastic

Community Promo@lemmy.ca•30 active communities which are not politics, news, memes or techEnglish
1·11 months agoWhich ones? All of these should have some content.
If a community has never been accessed by a user from your instance before (lemmy.wtf), they may appear empty to start with.

Community Promo@lemmy.ca•A list of casual communities on Lemmy (that aren't just tech news or politics)

2·2 years agoBonus: don’t have time and want to just auto-subscribe to all (please note this isn’t reversible without manually unsubbing yourself, there’s a lot of niche communities here that may not appeal to you - you can remove them from the JSON file if needed)?
- On PC, download this JSON file
- On PC, download Lemmy Migration Tool (download the relevant .zip file)
- Unzip folder, run file. Lemmy Migration Tool will now be open, like in this pic.
- Note: in the
Settingstab, you may wish to untick everything exceptUpload Community Subscriptions. Failure to do so may result in your Lemmy settings being changed. - Click the
Uploadtab. Then, enter your instance name and login details, click the upload button and upload the JSON file. - It’ll automatically subscribe you to them all. If it looks like it’s frozen, it hasn’t. Just let it run. If you’re on a small instance, you may need to re-run it a couple times (it can error if your instance hasn’t discovered the community yet, this is solved on a rerun).
Of course, some may not be of interest or may overload your feed (meme communities can do this). Unsubscribe as needed.
You can on Sync for Lemmy but it’s too low Res.

nvm figured it out edit: it’s webgl being disabled in about:preferences#librewolf - figure it out via hamburger menu > more tools > web developer tools > console, and seeing errors about WebGL pop up.
