Things are good! Workload got lightened a lot so I have time to catch up of stuff around the house and work on some projects I’ve had on hold. The weather’s also getting to the point I like here. I live for rainy afternoons.

Thank you all for the work you’ve put in to keep things up and running! I can’t imagine how many fires can pop up when a user base quadruples nearly overnight. Massive kudos to everyone that puts effort in to keep this place going. Go get that well deserved rest.
I think some of my favorite moments on the internet revolved around all the little rumors in Club Penguin back in the day. Thinks like trying to tip the iceberg before they actually made that a thing.
Overall it’s been pretty okay! Ended the weekend/started the week with a convention and hanging out with family on Monday. Short work weeks are always great, but having to deal with meetings while feeling sick (probably from something I caught at the convention) is a drag. Finger’s crossed I recover before a karting league race I have on Sunday!
Hello hello! Like a lot, I’m a long time redditor that decided to look for an alternative after their recent API announcements. Online communities I’m in call me Mindless. I’m a big technology and video game fan (older Pokemon games are my absolute jam). I spend a chunk of my time mentoring a local robotics team and, if I’m not doing that, I’m at the track racing karts!
So far I’ve really enjoyed the feeling of a smaller lemmy communities and hope to stay active here!
Well damn. Guess I’m getting a new motherboard soon. It’s crazy that this made it out the door without at least enforcing https. Then again, gigabyte hasn’t been known for thinking things all the way through recently.
If downvotes had been used as originally intended, they would be perfectly fine. But the cultural shift over time on the site from “downvote things not adding to the conversation” to “downvote what I don’t agree with” made their existence more toxic to conversations. Weighing down unpopular opinions in the sort feed made it even easier for echo chambers to build up. Having a way to give comments that are productive a bump is enough for effectively sorting things.
