And grey areas are risky on that business. So it’s generally a good idea to play it safe.

You can copyright the rulebook and the description of the rules.

You can’t copyright the rules themselves.

Like, for a dumb example, if you invented the game of baseball, you could write a book explaining the rules of baseball and how to play, and you could copyright that book and if anybody made unauthorized copies of that book or even just portions of it, you could sue them for copyright infringement. But you could not sue people for copyright infringement just because they were playing baseball without your permission … or writing books about playing baseball, etc.

Well, not with that attitude!

Sure. Old stock of burnable DVDs are literally a dime a dozen these days. I see whole spindles of them for sale at thrift shops for practically nothing. And each one is 4.7GB.

For long-term archival purposes, DVDs are much more affordable per GB.

However, you can pretty easily get into situations where the ‘good people’ stand by and do nothing, allowing the bad people to do very bad things.

Going back to the OG example, even at the height of the Nazi regime’s power, only about 30% of Germans were actually Nazis. But when the majority of ‘good people’ don’t stop them, that’s more than enough for them to exert absolute control over a country and commit horrible atrocities.
