  • Slay and serve are part of the drag/queer community lexicon that were made popular (iirc) in the NY ballroom scene. No one cares when 6th graders use them or if they stop.

If you watch queer media or hang out with The Gays, you’ll hear them all the time. They’re a bit campy, but not cringe.

  • Yes, people who are against racism are indoctrinated. You’re totally open minded because you’re a racist, which proves you can think for yourself.

Honestly dude, and I mean this seriously, I hope you get the chance to turn 38 or something and look back on how much of a prick you were when you were 16 and say to yourself that you’ve got some ground to make up, karmically speaking.

  • Turkey has a complicated political history but to color with a very broad brush, they were transformed from an Islamic state and former empire to a secular western aligned democracy by Kemal Ataturk. The Turkish army was politically aligned with Ataturk and would intervene to prevent Turkey from backsliding into an Islamic state. The current government executed a slow-rolling coup replacing military commanders and instituted a largely Islamic autocracy which for historical reasons remains a member of NATO but which would probably not join the alliance if the decision were to be made again today. They’re not a powerful nation militarily or economically by European standards, but seek to play both sides of international conflicts to magnify their influence. They cannot walk away from NATO without risking an existential threat from the military and economic fallout, but will get away with what they can.

We were taught not to use any luggage or clothing that looked even remotely military when traveling.

However it is against international law to disguise yourself as a civilian mech while carrying out combat operations and you can lose the legal protections afforded POWs.

  • For some reason, this projection is just really messing with me. I can recognize, with a bit of effort, the continents, but their relative sizes and positions is just making it tough to really follow what I’m guessing is an argument on storm patterns.

Can I suggest pushing out a visualization that uses an interactive 3d globe model instead of a single jpg? I feel like if I could scroll up and down between a normal sized Antarctica and a normal sized North America, my brain would be less confused as far as interpreting patterns and interactions goes.

  • I will give you the cliff notes version. There’s a thing called an umbilical cord. It’s used to provide nutrients and has been used as a mode of nutrient supply in placental mammals throughout evolutionary time.

The problem is that people who start with the conclusion (“god made people special”) get all fouled up when they have to walk through increasingly convoluted thinking to make their presuppositions line up with reality. Belly buttons are only a problem is you start from the idea of some weird mythology. Otherwise, they’re just expected and fully explained. It’s really not a matter for a course, but if you’re interested in a freshman level text on biology I could probably recommend one.

  • My point is that it makes no sense in the framework of reality and that you might as well go with the literal story of Adam and Eve or whatever mythology you want, because throwing Neanderthals into the mix does fuck all in terms of making anything believable. It’s literally as scientifically justified as the Norse creation myth about a giant cow licking salty ice to uncover the gods.
