Cake day: June 7th, 2023

help-circle

  • I go through phases but I always end up back to two slices of buttery toast.

Other things I sometimes cycle through Overnight oats Weetabix Porridge (winter only) Jam on toast Poached egg on toast

I also like home made pancake on a weekend day (family activity) or if going out for breakfast/brunch a full English or a chorizo breakfast hash

  • Right now? Focus on family. If it was just me who didn’t have to work I’d be a “stay at home dad” but even better if neither of us had to work and we could be a family together without having to disappear for 8+ hours every weekday.

Go to the park, Go to museums, Go to the bay or the beech, Walk in the woods, go to the library, go to soft play, go to role play, visit other friends and family, have a nice day at home and in the garden… there’s just so much to do before we even start worrying about expensive activities. Would be absolutely lovely if this wasn’t limited to the weekends.

I really love it, beehaw’s approach is to make a proper community rather than just a shotgun approach of a “Reddit replacement”

So this instance can really be it’s own self contained community - yes you can subscribe to other instances etc but this is “home” and has well thought out communities to let people chat about what they care about without needing a million super specialised (and inevitably empty) communities.

  • Definitely this. Was thinking about making a bit myself to do this as the whole direct link thing is such a pain but I don’t have any experience in making bots so I’d be even happier if someone else manages to make one!

Something that automatically converts https://beehaw.org/c/support to [support](/c/support) so they are useable across instances.___

  • The features I’d love to see:

    • Compact / Collapsed posts
    • Subscribed Community List
    • Search for Communities
    • Multi-Communities (an equivalent to the Multireddits in Apollo)

I use (or used to use) the Multireddit feature in Apollo all the time. My big use case is that I can put “spoiler” communities there so they don’t pop up in my main feed but I can go there once I’ve seen the relevant episode! It’s also really good for grouping regional ones… like

UK, Chill UK, UK Casual etc

Edit: and being able to edit your own post!

Oh man I remember that feeling.

Every time my life has moved on to the next phase things have just gotten better. That doesn’t mean there aren’t bumps (sometime serious giant bumps) along the way or the stuff that came before wasn’t great too but I feel that each new part of my life just enhanced everything that came before. This is a feeling that I know is shared by most people I know too.

I hope that’s the same for you and that everything goes well as you move into “adult corporate life”. Try to turn that daunting feeling into excitement as the new bit starts!

  • My little boy is just at the tail end of Chickenpox… so that has made it a tough week with long sleepless nights (had to be cuddled all night long) and unhappy days. Thankfully he’s a lot better now.

On the plus side, it has been nice having some solo dad time while mum worked and as he started feeling better we’ve been having lots of fun running around the house and playing in the garden.

Now I’ve just got to get caught up with work… of course it suddenly gets really busy just as I had to take last minute leave!

  • Hi Everyone

As with a lot of people here (most people?) the recent Reddit API changes (among other things) have encouraged me to go and look at what alternatives are out there. My username is new for Beehaw so not related at all to Reddit.

I live in the UK, am a parent to a 2 year old (great age, but it is knackering!) and fitting in with the stereotype I’m a bit of a techy, enjoy sci-fi, Gaming (playing Tears of the Kingdom right now) and D&D

Looking forward to taking part in the community

Edit: Just thought I’d add - I mostly used Reddit for following (and very occasionally taking part) in various Parenting, TV, Movies and Techy subreddits. I do like checking out episode discussions after watching a show to see what other people thought. Hopefully these kinds of things will be happening over here!
