It’s the first and only lemmy app working on my old 2015 android phone.
Great to have backwards compatible options. I also like it :)
They are, I get results. My worry is they are not aggregated/unified. Some lemmy instances don’t have ‘lemmy’ in their name, and I’m not sure if they would show up in a search “X + lemmy”.
That’s a very important point. Some of us probably still remember the learning curve when coming to lemmy. Everyone has heard how others complained about it, or would not join in the first place.
Creating ambiguous terms and multiple definitions for the same things is one unecessary way to make life harder for everyone.
More reasons:
Linking the two duolingo communities I found:
it is super easy to google e.g. “bifl socks reddit” but with federated services
I also guess that’s the issue. Many lemmy instances do not have ‘lemmy’ in their URL. So if someone searches for “bifl socks lemmy”, they might not see results from these lemmy instances with non-lemmy names.
Missing lots of groups.
Region/language specific: German, Hamburg

Someone posted https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/t/4331/The-growing-list-of-subreddits-going-to-be-dark-but which seems to suggest at least some of these already exist. But when I try to find/subscribe, I get “No results”. I’m trying to find new communities here, is this the right way? https://lemmy.click/search/q/search/type/Communities/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1
It also makes it more accessible if the language is consistent. I remember when I learned the reddit-specific terms like sub, subreddit, redditor, OP and so on. They seem obvious in hindsight, but some of them were not when I had no idea. Now imagine for each term, there would be multiple synonyms. The feeling of “I have no firm understanding of what they are talking about” would last longer, which isn’t exactly a pleasant experience for newcomers.
