No not really, the basements in apartment buildings are heated to something more like 17°C (going from what it feels like).
You’re just meant to put shelf-stable food in there, like pasta or canned stuff. It’s just a big pantry, not a fridge.

And while yeah things will get more expensive, i’m more talking about having food and water in emergencies, which most people don’t have. You’re not really going to store enough food in there to make much difference for something as long-term as farmers running out of fertilizer, but e.g. if power goes out for a week then a stocked pantry is the difference between it being a traumatic event and it just being a very unpleasant week.

  • regardless of the canonical age in the game, BotW very clearly portrays them as like 20 years old. It’s like when anime shows characters having no particularly young features and having been head of the guard for 5 years, and then insists they’re 15.

Yeah right lmao, the only reason that age is chosen is to appeal to the kids watching it, and maybe (depressingly) to the audience of adult creeps who prefer the idea of them being young…

To be fair even if it doesn’t make you gay, it’s at least an indication that they’re not… not gay…
Because I would not have sex with someone i’m not attracted to, even if you paid me quite a lot of money for it. If i’m not sexually attracted to someone them i’m kind of by default averse to the idea of them in a sexual context at all.

This is why i like the term “handsome”, i can absolutely recognize that george clooney is handsome, but even as someone who has explored their sexuality as far as possible thanks to the help of the internet i can’t even enjoy the idea of him in a sexual context with the hottest woman i’ve ever imagined.

It’s something that makes me wonder if everyone who watches “straight” porn is actually really quite bi/pan, because i just… can’t really enjoy it? It’s doable if all you see of the guy is the junk, but if you actually see the dude’s body it’s like when you make food that’s not gross but also not tasty, so you just sorta eat it dispassionately…

And this is coming from someone who actually REALLY likes dicks, and some very very specific kinds of guys. Despite those things i just find the idea of attraction to normal guys utterly baffling.

  • This is the way: either low-calorie or high satiation, and as much fibre as possible so you’re at least gaining something from it.

I like baking carrot cake with as little sugar as is needed to make it taste good (which is remarkably less than recipes call for, i think i’m removing like A THIRD), and using whatever kind of flour has the highest proportion of fibre.
It’s not healthy as such, but at least for me as someone who burns a decent amount of calories, it’s something i can snack on as much as i want without feeling bad (with the significant caveat of doing so AFTER i’ve eaten something more proper, so it’s not displacing the “real” food).

  • Here in sweden we have something like this in the basements of at least all the old apartment buildings (not sure if it’s still being put into new construction).
Basically just a second storage room, but intended for stocking up on food, which i’m starting to REALLY wish people knew about because it would be rather nice if everyone had a pantry full of food and water if we have to rush down into the basement to take shelter for… some reason…

  • I just want to note that you should make sure to verify that rice is actually cheap where you live, before going with it.
This post seems aimed quite specifically at american audiences (without actually stating such), but up here in the frozen wasteland of scandinavia rice is actually not that cheap at all, quite expensive even unless you go with literally the absolute cheapest brands available.

If you live in europe i’d wager potatoes are the actual ideal cheap carb, especially during harvest time when the market is flooded with such an absurd amount of potatoes that the price tanks and might even literally reach 0. Another option to look at is as you say, barley or other whole grains.

Frozen peas are also a nice alternative to beans (though obviously less appealing as the main protein), which can simply be tossed into the food while warm or a bowl of them can be put in a microwave oven at full blast for a minute to get fully thawed.
