Komo is shit. Has been for years.
Komo is shit. Has been for years.
Tip for people thinking about coming to Syttende Mai in Ballard:
Don’t drive. Don’t even think about it. On the tiny off chance you find a parking spot within five miles, you’re just gonna get sideswiped by a drunk 70-year-old named Nils. If you’re far away, park somewhere around Greenwood and Holman and take the D line down.
Good for them! Like to see a quality local business thrive.
Please do this. Also do it for some of the other similar streets in the city, like Ballard Ave. Maybe open it to delivery trucks only before 8am, then foot traffic only the rest of the day?
Also remember that if a protestor picks up one of these “non-lethal crowd control measures” and throws it back at the police, they get charged with Assault With a Deadly Weapon.
That’s a big chunk of it, yes. KOMO is owned by Sinclair media, KIRO isn’t much better. Fox13 is fucking fox, so I won’t even bother. The Times is Hearst Corporation. So the vast majority of media sources here are directly owned by institutions that have a vested interest in maintaining status quo.
The Stranger is still independent, but the quality has suffered greatly over the last 10+ years.
Also, this is partly a natural pendulum swing back to the right. A lot of people were upset after the Sawant experiment (debacle?), but instead of finding better leftist politicians, we just fled back to the centrist, corporate bullshit that led us down the Sawant path in the first place.
Agreed, and the appointment of Mark Solomon kind of solidifies that. I’m hoping that we pass 1A, and by the time we actually get to work on it we’ll have voted in a council that actually does the shit we want.
Let’s go, Seattle. Put our money where our mouths are. Tax the rich to help the poor, invest in infrastructure, be a sanctuary to the needy, all the good shit.
As a lower-upper-lower-middle-class DINK, I am more than willing to give up some more tax money to help. People making more than 10x what I do should feel the fucking same.
I tangentially know Edward Lin and can verify that he has good priorities that line up with mine. Been a city attorney for years working on affordable housing initiatives and fundraising. Good public speaker, very personable, etc. Not a well- known name, but a solid candidate.
SPD loves to waste our money protecting themselves.
It’s owned by Sinclair. The news is going to be poorly-written, right-wing drivel. The ads are just icing on the shit cake.
I’m hoping that they step up the quality in the new location. The novelty is cool, a lot of the flavor combos are interesting, but the base donut itself was always a bit disappointing.
Bear in mind I haven’t been there post Covid, so maybe they already improved?
God, corporate America is so fucked. Starbucks, Amazon, Microsoft, Boeing, Google. That’s a quick, off-the-top-of-the-head list of LOCAL companies that have bought in on aggressive union busting in the last few years. There are infinitely more national brands that decided that execs making fast profits is more important than workers’ livelihoods.
Just look at what Rodger May did to Peter Pan Seafoods. Perfect example of cutthroat capitalist bullshit. Thousands of jobs lost, skyrocketing prices for consumers, bargain prices for the guy who caused it.
Been a long, long time since I’ve been to /r/seattlewa. They were a big part of why I quit reddit. Is it still a cesspool of hate and bigotry, spewing anti-homeless rhetoric and jerking off Jon Cho and Jason Rantz?
Yeah, but there was way more pizza.
Don’t forget that they started major construction on the Ballard bridge and the intersection of 15th and Market right before Seafood Fest!
Man. Good thing global warming is a liberal hoax, or else I’d be worried about this.
If anybody doesn’t know Holy Mountain, it is IMO the best craft brewery in Seattle. They make excellent traditional IPAs and sours, and they also take risks and experiment with weird shit, and most of it ends up delicious.
Their new Phinney location seems to be a little bit more family-friendly, but it still has its roots in the aesthetic of metal music and cool cryptic art.
I give this a resounding “meh.” If you’re worried about your hearing (you should be), get a decent pair of Loops or something like that. Making ElCo offer $1 shitty foam earbuds isn’t really gonna accomplish anything.
