Is this why they call it the BRAT diet?

Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?1·2 years agoThis is why I am not putting all my eggs in one basket (e.g., I have a Tildes account).
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?1·2 years agoInteresting! I gave you a boost as well, also for science. Funny how we all seem to be tinkering and figuring what does what here.
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?8·2 years agoEarly adopters of any innovation likely have certain personality traits that make them able and willing to assess a new technology and learn/overcome some obstacles to use it. Maybe those traits translate into pleasant, respectful online communication?
ETA: I need to see if I still have my old grad school copy of Diffusion of Innovation. It might have some answer in there.

ETA1: Most everyone seems thoughtful and patient. So maybe those are early adopter traits?
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?3·2 years agoThe FIRE community could use the existing Mr. Money Mustache forums. Only hiccup is, I believe, that it is difficult to get a new account (not sure why that is, maybe that’s an old problem and it’s easier now). I’ve lurked that forum for years; they seem like a friendly, helpful, well regulated, un-frothy bunch.
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why does Lemmy feel so fresh compared to Reddit?1·2 years agoThere is a thing called Reputation (IIRC) tucked away in your profile. Im not sure if that’s a true karma equivalent. Also not sure what you can do with it.
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto Chat@beehaw.org•How long until Threadiverse is ready for normies?4·2 years ago“Kbin is like Reddit, except it’s not privately owned. Individuals run their own servers and people can communicate and follow each other across the whole network. You just pick a server and sign up with that one. Here’s a couple servers that I like…”
That sounds concise and non techy, I think. But I’m sure someone could come up with an even simpler, more inviting elevator pitch.
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto Chat@beehaw.org•Why do most reddit alternatives end up becoming shit shows?11·2 years agoI don’t necessarily think OP is FOS. I’m just having an entirely different experience. That could be because I signed up with kbin.social and am subscribed to non-political magazines. It’s been a very chill experience so far.
Very_Bad_Janet@kbin.socialto Chat@beehaw.org•I just deleted 12 years of content. Feels weird1·2 years agoCould you explain to someone who is not.techy how they might do this? I typically access Reddit by Android phone. Would I need to use a computer?

This might be a wild idea but how do you feel about asking you friends, male and female, if they know of any single women and for them to set you up on some dates? A few are bound to know someone and something might come out of it (at the very least an amusing anecdote).
