I actually really like this idea. I feel like it should also have a time expiry of some sort but I overall I think it’s a good balance of protections for smaller creators and a limit to excessive greed. If it’s truly a revolutionary idea, it will make back the development costs quickly and the information will be available to other creators to build on.

Pretty good! Started off with a morning at playcentre, afternoon doing a shift at the toy library, and finished off by giving a presentation at the community council meeting. Got my community garden proposal through to the next phase (regional council). Got overwhelming support from my presentation at the community council meeting and feeling really good about it. First structural edit meeting for the book I’ve been working on is Thursday and I’m really happy with how that’s all going too. Early stages of getting a library of tools/community workspace organised.

Just in a really good place right now and I feel like I’m actually getting somewhere with my goals.

I just have one of those times for andriod that tells me I’m done for the day. I can click add 10 minutes if I’m in the middle of something like making a post or messaging a friend but I generally just accept it and tune in again the next day. Things are more fun when they’re finite

I really enjoy other social medias like tiktok and instagram but I’m really intentional about how I use them. I only consume and interact with content that brings me joy. I use it to stay in touch with friends so that means making sure I talk with them, interact with their posts, and show them some love. I don’t engage with trolls or haters but i will try and have a discussion with people who seem genuinely curious, confused, or open to other view points and not hostile. I try not to spend more than an hour on the both of the consuming content a day (usually spread out while i wait for the sun, at lunch, and before bed.) I love to create silly videos about crafts, gardening, and baking so I like to post those but I find I will get sucked into scrolling and not do all the things I love if I don’t set limits.

Beehaw is great because it’s not so busy I have to spend a long time catching up and I have already ran into so many friendly people with similar, positive interests. I really want this space to be something that adds to my life and so far it has. I’ve got a new kombucha guide to try, more info on how to organise community projects, crafty friends to share projects with, and even some info on how to fix my oven! Beehaw is different than the other social medias as it’s a place that’s very conversation focused. Its smaller than reddit making it feel more accessible as comments don’t get drowned out in busy threads. Tiktok has character limits that doesn’t allow for real conversations and instagrams feed is usually outdated and full of sponsored or irrelevant content so I really just stick to stories. This is my new favourite space but I still enjoy the others for different reasons

I haven’t used scented soaps or detergents for years. I definitely have a sensitive nose but i think it’s always been quite good? You’re right that it’s easier to smell more mild smells when there isn’t something stronger covering it up.

Go pick up a heap at your local hospice shop. I’ve gotten a lot of mine there and made a few more out of scrap fabric. I use old flannelette cotton sheets for our spill rags.

Exactly! We can’t fix everything and not everyone has the resources or energy for big changes but maybe little ideas can be shared and feel more achievable. I think a lot of people would love to get more involved in their communities in a positive way and just don’t know how. Maybe a place talking about little ways or laying out how something is done will make it easier for others to take action

Even just smaller things like posting about park clean-ups or events a local community is doing that make everyone a but happier would be a great start.

I would also be interested in hearing from people who’ve used community resources on how they might be improved. What fresh vegetables and fruits were best froma food pantry and what just wasnt usable? Is donating things like herbs to improve flavour more helpful than a few miss matched vegetables that can’t quite make a real meal? I would love to have some recommendations on what I should be growing more of for donations

But what are the ideals of the left? Isn’t there a focus on social equality and human rights? There are circles and movements on the left that i don’t fully agree with because you’re right, it’s not a monolith, but the core value of equality amongst humans feels like a requirement. I just think excusing genocide and supporting authoritarianism or totalitarianism are incompatible with the core leftist value of equality.

Personally I’m not sure I consider tankies leftists. Although communism is a leftists ideal, it’s based on the premise of people being equal and deserving of basic needs. Tankies often embrace misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, and authoritarianism and deny or even support injustices against other humans. Not very leftist of them imo

They already have several. Vote, 8chan, 4chan, parler, telegram, truth spcial, pockets of reddit, and twitter now i guess. I can’t think of as many leftist equivalents.

I have been sick for almost two weeks. I had the stomach flu then caught a bad cold immediately after (still testing negative). I’m behind on my work and I have a big deadline next month so feeling a bit down. Hoping to be magically recharged and crank out the last of my to do list but stressing that it won’t happen.

I’m almost finished with The Choice by Edith Eger. It’s been an emotionally difficult read but it’s very well written. Looking forward to reading some a bit brighter next.

I haven’t knitted in ages but I’m a keen crafter and do a lot of sewing, some embroidery/cross stitch, pottery, woodworking, and general artsy stuff. I have a heap of wool I need to spin so I can get back into wool crafts but I promised myself I would finish my crockery set first 🙃
