In my experience, most self-identified centrists, at least in the US, are to the right of what anyone reasonable would actually consider center. And I don’t mean that in an “um ackshually the Dems are center right” way either, I mean they’re often just Conservatives who don’t hate gays (but do hate trans people) or something.

  • I can’t say I definitely won’t go back…I like Lemmy’s community better than Reddit’s but I’m not sure it’ll ever be as popular or as reliable as a source of info as Reddit. I think the Fediverse runs into similar problems to Linux, where it’s definitely superior in most ways to the nonfree competition, but that superiority goes hand in hand with inaccessibility to non-nerds. I like Tumblr’s community less than Reddit (and Lemmy, Reddit, and Tumblr are the only three social media sites I even find the community tolerable, though I don’t have Mastodon because I don’t have anyone I want to follow there) and Tumblr has never been useful for searching info.

But let me tell you, Spez’s conduct and praise of Elon Musk is what has me considering not going back. It’s just…he tried to act on the pulse of the userbase and failed spectacularly. Also hearing that Reddit is a noticably higher percentage assholes after the protests started.

  • Vaguely progressive (I live in the USA, I think country is usually important when discussing ideology)

I believe in crushing the Christian theocrats, building back up social safety nets including universal healthcare, wealth taxes, gun control but not an outright gun ban (some people from other countries, often Canadians and Finns, think they have a gun ban when they do not,) active efforts to improve relations with Mexico and Canada, I think the government doesn’t do enough to prepare for a post-US hegemony world, I think we should de-escalate with China, we should reduce the need for personal car usage, and…I don’t have anything that even resembles a policy proposal here but we need to combat enshittification (it is embarrassing that the most effective regulatory body against US tech companies is the European Union.) Also Mark Zuckerberg should be on death row.

  • Fighting games. I wasn’t too surprised not to find communities for specific fighting games (other than Guilty Gear which I don’t like) but no general community either?

A non-pornographic femboy and/or femboy discussion community (a pornographic one exists.) I’m still deciding whether I want to go back to Reddit or not and the thing that almost prompted me to go back right then and there was wanting to ask a question about fitting into women’s clothes. This I think might be too niche to be useful on anything other than a big site.

  • Motorola One 5G Ace.

Every time I’ve had to get a new phone, I’ve gone on GSMArena and to me it always seems Motorola’s midranges have the best bang for your buck, at least in my price range. I kinda don’t like how they promised Android 12 and didn’t deliver, but I’ve heard some things that make me think that’s a blessing in disguise. Even if I could go iPhone, I wouldn’t, I like having control that Apple won’t allow me. I probably wouldn’t go more expensive if I could either (there’s a part of me that wants a Razr for coolness reasons, but I know foldables are still super fragile)
