I think people are missing that this is the 2nd most taught foreign language, not the 2nd most taught language. So there’s the native language, then the most taught foreign language, and then the 2nd most taught foreign language. I’d imagine for quite a few countries that English is the most taught foreign language, particularly ones that heavily rely on tourism.

Same! I’m surprised how little agricultural land there is in Japan though. I wonder how dependent on imports they are.
Can I offer a non tech site?
A bit niche - train travel around the world - but if you want to travel between countries by train, or several countries, or cross country, this is THE site. I’ve used it for inspiration, and for checking whether a mad idea I’ve had is feasible, and for planning.
I’ve done a few trips by train and often people are amazed at my travel know-how but in reality I have none, the guy who makes this website does, and he makes it all incredibly easy. Timetables, prices, options, suggested routes, links to buy tickets, what to expect from the train facilities, it’s all in there.
Was going to say, I joined meander.xyz as it seems to have a good mix of tech, science, and environment / nature stuff as well. When I scrolled through it was the instance that most resembled my subreddit list (except for the cats. Is there a cats instance?!)
And let’s not even get into the labelling of the UK and Ireland as one country… We still haven’t sorted out the mess from last time.
