  • In my experience, like 4 times out of 5 when people decry things getting too political, what they’re really saying is they like things the way they are and they don’t want anyone to change anything. the other 1 time out of 5 they’re just super exhausted fighting the good fight all the time and need to turn off for a bit just to survive the next day.

it’s the one thing I like about mastodon - the CWs - even though it seems like so many people are against them. but in my view, it gives people who are wrung out and highly upset over politics and general disappointment an ability to let their batteries recharge, while still allowing others to agitate for change and shine a light on political problems.

it also neatly pulls the rug out from under the 4/5ths of people who are happy with their lot in life and don’t want anyone else to win like they are. I see this as an absolute win

  • my wife is a big fan of shipping in fandoms. she also loves genshin impact, and there’s a ship between zhongli (archon of geo) and childe (secret agent of shitheadville). zhongli often uses childe’s seemingly inexhaustible source of funds for various things, and when I saw “Gaywallet” I was 100% sure you were referencing childe being zhongli’s gaywallet.

A joke isn’t funny if you have to explain it, but god damn my wife thought it was the funniest thing ever when I was ruminating on whether your name was a reference to this ship or not.

  • howdy! my username is my actual first name. i’m a software engineer in research in the seattle metro. i’m a cis hetero white guy in my 4th decade and i just recently found out i’m high functioning autistic with a boatload of childhood ptsd that makes it hard for me to be in super social public spaces or anywhere i might inconvenience others by my existence.

i explicitly chose beehaw because i was tired of all the fucking nazis and toxic masculinity asshats traipsing around reddit, and i specifically wanted to be in a community where LGBTQIA+ were explicitly made to feel like they belong.

i like reading, woodworking, pc gaming, ice hockey, my dogs, making and eating good food, slice of life anime and my wife. even if i didnt get paid in golden yachts for my labor i’d still probably be writing code every single day, because it’s just what i do. i’m most happy solving problems, proviso there’s no stress or anxiety around it, because i manufacture all the stress and anxiety the human being needs to survive on it’s own

My lil’ buddy had to have (effectively) a doggo knee replacement surgery. We had him in for a consult with the surgeon on Monday and on Tuesday he was going in for a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) for a torn CCL and bone chip.

Not only did my big lug end up tearing his cranial cruciate ligament, he also apparently partially tore the caudal cruciate ligament, which isn’t super common. So now we’re trying to do recovery mode and it’s a big challenge

Edit: he’s 91lbs (41.6kg) and carrying him outside is just fucking killing my lower back ;x

  • I mentioned this in a previous thread before the short term memory wipe of the weekend, but I hesitate to post anything in DIY because I presume it’s for home renovations and I don’t do that. Maybe, if we can add stuff to a sidebar, we can say “Make it, Fix it, Renovate it, Rehabilitate it - just as long as you’ve done some of it yourself, share!” or something. In my community chat we have distinct channels for “maker-space” and “home-projects”, of which the latter is the “I gutted my bathroom and I’m in way over my head”, and the former is “look at this 3d printed dildo laser cannon I made”. Maybe that’s all we need - examples in the sidebar? If lemmy even allows for that, that is.
