That’s a suspiciously ong reply for someone who’s not a communist ;)
How likely do you think it is that we’ll have communist leadership, or broad anarchy in your lifetime? We are fighting for survival and the fascists are painting targets on all of us. I beg you to keep your focus on the present situation when deciding who you will or won’t work with.
I have absolutely seen power dynamics in anarchist spaces. Nobody is making you work with anyone. I have removed myself from communist and anarchist organizing in the past because I wasn’t vibing with one thing or another. Reducing (or writing off) individuals to their tendency isn’t productive. I’m not asking anarchists to become communists or vice versa, I’m just asking for us to work together where we can.
You had a bad experience with some people, and have made up your mind about a whole political philosophy? Of course there’s asshole communists that are unpleasant to work with. I absolutely cannot believe that you’ve never had similar experience with anarchists. I certainly have, but it hasn’t made me write off anarchism, it just made me write off working with those specific people.
If you find yourself getting real worked up about tankies or anarchists, then respectfully, go touch some fucking grass. There’s real comrades (of a variety of tendencies) out there, fighting against actual (and ascendent) fascism. Your ideological grudges are so fuckin stupid and irrelevant at this point in history. Seriously. Not. Worth. A. Fucking. Mention. Work together when you can, wish them luck when you can’t.

I just say: “Well, I’m going to bed. You’re welcome to stay if you like. I can bring you some bedding for the couch. Otherwise, please lock the door on your way out.”

It’s definitely cheaper by a lot in the long run just to host at home, and if I could get Gigabit symmetrical internet, I would do that. I really like being able to access my library from anywhere in the world, and I also share it with a handful of friends/family. I could ask them to contribute to the cost, but then I’d feel obligated to support!
I’ve never hit any rate limits if there are any.
My total cost for the VPS that runs my stack, plus the Hetzner storage box is around $50 USD/mo.
I have the storage box mounted as an encrypted volume using rclone.
Mines “in the cloud” and my 20TB storage box is almost full 😭
Organizing is always the solution. Ideal world or not, how could you possibly change structures as an individual. Of course it is an uphill battle, but it’s still a battle we have to fight.
The antidote is class consciousness and solidarity. Some may think that this just replaces one enemy with another, but fascists blame the powerless, while my side blames the powerful.
