why haven’t they upgraded yet?
They were designed about 10 years apart. These 2 things are not the same.
This is legitimate criticism of the mouse. I don’t like it for the same reason: I had carpal tunnel issues with it, as well as unintentional swiping and clicking issues. 
Leaving at permanently plugged in would  destroy the battery life. That’s why.
Plug it in for, like, five minutes and go take a pee break. It’ll be good for about six hours.
Just charge it one of the 10 times it tells you the battery is low as you leave the office, and you won’t have to deal with it when the battery actually dies. It’s not that complicated.
True, but still…
It’s also pretty great for iOS
