Advertising is a form of hostile content. Advertisers mean us harm. They might have some tenuous moral right to try to expose me to their manipulation, but I am not obliged to co-operate and my moral right to protect myself is much stronger. This is implicit in every form of advertising. You are not doing anything immoral by buying a magazine and then not reading any of the ads it contains.

Arguments against ad blockers require that there are not alternate ways of exploiting content production, or any reasons to produce content other than financial gain.

It’s not so important to tell the difference between a human and a bot as it is to tell the difference between a human and ten thousand bots. So add a very small cost to passing the test that is trivial to a human but would make mass abuse impractical. Like a million dollars. And then when a bot or two does get through anyway, who cares, you got a million dollars.

Apparently I have wildly failed to express myself. I did not call anyone an idiot and I don’t think leftists swing MAGA because of idiocy. I did not dismiss anyone as crazy and I would not use such ableist language. But there are clear signs that the mental health of everyone has been suffering. People are not doing well across many indicators. It is striking. I saw some very distressing things leading up to the 2016 election. In CANADA, I saw a bleeding heart leftist become a MAGA cultist, and I still don’t understand what happened. I know other people whose families were torn apart over this. In frigging CANADA.

I know this sounds a bit out there but I actually suspect some new psyops technology was deployed against the public in the mid 2010s. Could be something as small as a nation state comprehensively assessing and very slightly moving ahead their understanding of the psychology of advertising or social media. Could be as large as a dark AI technology the public does not know about. I think the public are being intentionally psychologically destabilized by people who benefit when the public acts more randomly. But when you step back from it, it doesn’t really require a conspiracy or intention. These systems have a habit of arising naturally under the exploitation of people by capital and in times of growing fear and fascism.

While this is a true statement, it is also misleading. It does not speak to whether you intended it as an insult or not. Your three terse words presented without punctuation or even capital letters would be interpreted by most people as dismissive and insulting. No effort was taken to be careful of the recipient’s feelings, and it is easily anticipated by a highly educated person that it might be taken as an insult, so I can say with a high level of confidence that at the very least, you did not care if he took it as an insult or not, regardless of your actual intentions. In fact, it’s my personal opinion you wanted it to be received insultingly.
