  • I think an even more important aspect to me is something I don’t have a good term for, but something like honesty/intrusiveness. The key issue is that advertisement should be an honest, truthful, non-deceitful representation of a good/service. But instead ads are designed to catch your eye, insert themselves into your thoughts with catchy music, play on your emotions even using kids, all while avoiding really telling you what they’re about.

On the note of consent, it reminds me of a certain website for webnovels, which hosts ads submitted by users, for their own novels. It’s been kind of ruined by GenAI, but it feels very different when the ads are often badly made memes about the premise of the story, since that’s what you’re already on the site for and it’s the actual authors wanting to share their stories.

Evolutionary pressure to survive, for one, since we need heterosexual intercourse to breed. I’m all for freedom in this regard, but come on, heterosexuality is the default because it’s how we evolved and thus what the species needed to survive. Explaining how it’s the default is good as part of the greater understanding in science, but you’re probably not going to have success trying to study it in isolation, you want to look at the “exceptions” and figure out where and how they diverged.

  • dont call children twinks, otters, or femboys.

You know, I never thought about how old Link and Zelda are in the games. Never really had a need, of course, but in some games it’s made obvious (literally switching between child link and adult link), I’m not sure if it’s explicitly stated for wind waker but just look at him… But then, in BotW there’s implications of past romance, and this being the last Zelda game I played might have primed me to not think of Link as a kid.

Having two different configurations of assets requires making a system that can switch between them, separate deployments for them, some way to actually fetch the asset pack by the users, testing to make sure both configurations work correctly, actually deploying the separate asset pack during an update, and then spending time fixing bugs that inevitably come up with any added complexity.

Could they do it? Absolutely. Should they do it? Probably.

Would there be no downside, no tradeoff? Claiming so is plainly ridiculous.

  • I think your point might also apply the other way - people are also encouraged to make exaggerated, incendiary comments for attention. Mild, reasonable takes, especially not posted quickly, will usually be overshadowed by the more extreme top comments. I believe the poster in question defended themselves claiming it was just an exaggeration.

The implication of the meme is that the people talking about how stupid the protests are are actually blind to the very real climate change happening. They might know about it, but they don’t really comprehend that defacing the Stonehenge is nothing compared to it being completely underwater, alongside the whole area.

Whether the comic is right or wrong is another thing, and the other guy arguing in bad faith is a cunt, but I strongly believe that’s what the comic is meant to portray.
