You Should Know@lemmy.world•If you have ANY Canadian ancestor, you are likely a Canadian citizen as a result of recent changes in Canadian law
4·5 months agoCome Nerevar, friend or traitor, come. Come and look upon the Heart and Akulakahn, and bring Wraithguard, I have need of it. Come to the Heart chamber, I wait for you there, where we last met, countless ages ago. Come to me through fire and war, I welcome you! Welcome Moon-and-Star, I have prepared a place for you! Come, bring Wraithguard to the Heart chamber, together, let us free the cursed false gods! Welcome Nerevar, together we shall speak for the law and the land and drive the mongrel dogs of the Empire from Morrowind! Is this how you honor the 6th house and the tribe unmourned? Come to me openly, and not by stealth. Dagoth Ur welcomes you Nerevar, my old friend… but to this place where destiny is made, why have you come unprepared? Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where YOUR destiny is made. What a fool you are, I’m a god! How can you kill a god? What a grand and intoxicating innocence! How could you be so naive? There is no escape, no recall or intervention can work in this place! Come! Lay down your weapons! It is not too late for my mercy…
As a person from a Ukrainian immigrant family who’s mom is the last to speak the language, that is just painfully sad. The language is such an important part of the culture and to deny it’s existence even to yourself is just sad
Oh, I personally love to see it. It’s how we bridge the gap of academia and the real world. There are many things that people feel or experience but don’t have the language to discuss, but once they do it can be very empowering. If you’re familiar with urban planning discours online then you’ve maybe heard of the word “stroad” describing the horrible 6 lane + type roads in much of the US filled with stripmalls. Being on one you can get this feeling of alienation and artificiality, like something isn’t right. However once you have a name for it, you can now discuss and advocate to change the “stroad”.
This person is just describing the psychological factors underpinning self-determination theory as it applies to work but without the language to convey it: https://selfdeterminationtheory.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/2017_DeciOlafsenRyan_annurev-orgpsych.pdf

1·10 months agoWell the graph has to have a standard of what it’s measuring. Hours contributing to full time work and government issued days off are very different things especially when people are still working a typical five day week.
I don’t agree that the graph is useless outside of the US example just because of these small differences. It still shows what it primarily is trying to show, that being legally provided days off.

1·10 months agoThat wouldn’t make sense in this graph as then you’d get into the minutia of that happening everywhere like Québec being 37.5h as full time

You do that already, and it’s even worse actually because everyone has an even more individual and sometimes difficult to remember thing about them you have to balance in a social situation. It’s called a name. You have to be told it, you can easily forget it, and it’s a social slight to call someone the wrong name. Right now gender expression feels uncomfortable to have to tell people because of the politisation and stigma pressed on it, but it doesn’t have to be anything different than asking for someone’s name to better address them.
This is actually a well studied phenomenon in research as autistic people have been shown not to have worse social communication or empathy but differently structured kinds that are sometimes incompatible with neurotypical people (I’d go find some papers but im typically this from bed in the morning)
Also if you’re looking for resources on how to best support and work with neurodivergent people I highly suggest you pick up The Canary Code by Dr. Ludmila Praslova, it’s probably the best text on the subject to date: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/742858/the-canary-code-by-ludmila-n-praslova-phd/
The answer is they are not but it’s more about proximity and shared experience. No two neurodivergent people are the same and those with different divergences sometimes horribly clash in terms of communication styles. However two autistic people may have more in common in terms of communication styles and shared experience to communicate far more easily than with a neurotypical person.

Mine doesn’t show it, I’m on boost
