It’s only legal if their tips exceed the minimum wage. Whether or not the employee would ask for the difference over fear of retaliation is another story
Tipping culture comes from minimum wage laws. Laws need to change before culture could change.

IMO being called poorly educated doesn’t necessarily need to be taken as an insult
Without sharing too many personal details for privacy reasons, I likely have slightly less higher education than @squirrel_bear@sopuli.xyz. Based on the info provided alone we aren’t far off, but it might be valuable to also look at non-academic experience, what field, or how we compare to others in our field or region. I’m not comfortable sharing these details, so I’m fine with conceding that I have slightly less higher education.
Edit: I’ll also add that I don’t support namecalling.

In USA yes, we drink tap water without boiling as long as we’re in an area with safe tap water (most of the population) and not using our own untreated/untested well water. Every once in a while we get alerted to local unsafe tap water. We have a filter on the tap water but haven’t always.
I do too, but it’s a hard sell for the masses right now. I want Fairphone to succeed but it’s tough.
Their subscription program is even less competitive.
