I like this idea, but I disagree with the last sentence. The improvement in the average quality of life does not come from the capitalist system, but from technological and scientific progress.
Since lemmy.ml is the instance run by the devs I guess it is actually the oldest one (dating back to the 20th of April in 2019).
I want to be commanded by Klaus-Dieter Klebsch (example).
Though for everyday life a smoother voice would be nice, like Janet Varney maybe?
iOS because Apple ecosystem is much more convenient and consistent. I do not worry so much about the struggle you mentioned because the EU will fix it (see USB-C, sideoading, more to come)
Both, mobile and web app.
Oh well, in Lemmy this works fine ^^
I have another cool tip for you. You can embed the graphic into your comment when you use markdown formatting. This way ![](https://media.tenor.com/uC2qyrJsT6wAAAAM/oh-really-o-rly.gif)
becomes this:
.
For now I don’t think it makes sense to federate large media like videos. The storage costs are just too high to replicate this data all over the place.
Luckily, media isn’t federated but only stored where it was uploaded ^^
Seems like animated pictures in posts only work if it’s in WebP format but in post bodies or comments gif works too. mp4 should be possible in theory but does not play for me. See this test post.
For the apps I doubt it. The native media libraries often lack support for animated images.
It wouldn’t help saving space because posts and comments aren’t purged from the database if you delete them. They remain there but are marked as hidden.
EDIT: only admins (and mods?) can purge them from the DB
Yes, they become permanently unavailable. However, you could still use the username on a different server.
I am also team !+@ because of the auto suggestions in the web app.
Sounds good overall. You should definitely also compose some more texts, I think this will teach much more than consumption. Maybe join some communities and discussions over here at feddit.de ;-)
Delete requests are propagated to other servers, but in theory they can ignore that. So not really different from people scraping Reddit.
Just for password resets and notifications if enabled. Definitely not visible to other users.
God, I miss the trains of Europe so much. I want a rail system like France or Germany over here. Cheap tickets and fast trains instead of windy highways and expensive gas.
Yeah, people are often annoyed by delays here, but I guess in comparison to other countries it is pretty good.
I’m going back to finish off computer science. I started that after getting a degree in something else, but now I wanna marry my fields together :)
Sounds exciting!
I might have missed the language picker, but it was all in German when I searched for it, haha.
I’m wanting to do a few camping trips with friends and I’m also going back to school for a second degree!
Sounds really cool! How long does a second degree take? It is just over the course of the summer? Also, is it just one subject or general?
I am planning to go hiking with my friends and visit a spa there too. Besides, I’ll go to Berlin by train (yay D-Ticket) and visit some sights like the Pergamonmuseum before it closes some of its exhibitions for 15 years.
Can’t wait to see it in action ;-)
