Yup, you’re right, I’ve had OLED TVs in my sight for quite a while. They seem to be ridiculously cheap compared to OLED monitors. Seems like you could get a lot of bang for your buck there. And cheaper OLEDs also mitigate for the burn-in issue somewhat, as you could just buy a new one if it ever becomes unbearable. How have you found things like text rendering to work on the OLED TV?
Normally I like buying things second hand as well. That way I can buy second-hand, sell my things to make up for the cost, too. With OLED, second-hand feels risky, due to burn-in again.
I had thought about using the OLED monitor just for games, but I can’t exactly justify dropping £1k on something I’m only using for games lol
Monitors are an exciting place of development. They make such a huge difference when upgraded. The jumps between TN -> IPS -> OLED are crazy and completely change the experience. Almost nothing else makes such a big difference. Maybe HDD -> SSD was similar.
Loved the NUCs, shame. Along with Optane, Intel has now killed off two product lines that I really, really liked.

This is an interesting proposition while holding out for OLED monitors (still too worried about burn-in). So instead of going low-brightness and infinite contrast (OLED), you can go high-brightness (HDR1000 mini-led), yes with blooming around your cursor, but for gaming / media consumption it could be pretty good. Especially at that price. Though I suspect $500 translates to £700 lol…
Yes I think they are trying to gaslight us into believing these new tiers are acceptable. Heck, there was going to be a 4080 that they begrudgingly rebranded 4070 after the world ridiculed them.
About a GTX 1060, though that CPU will hold it back at times. I suppose it makes sense to have GPU headroom, rather than CPU headroom, however.
It’s sort of a shame to think that it’s so difficult to have truly free hardware. But at the very least there are many projects working on making it as free as possible. If older hardware is an option, you can get pretty close. ThinkPads with Coreboot come to mind.
Yup and proton. It’s bonkers to think that I went from dual-booting windows ONLY for games, to being able to play almost anything on Manjaro.
Is controlling such a small device / screen complicated? Do you use an external mouse / keyboard? I’m quite interested in getting one.
Well, it is an Apple device after all. I understand that there’s some manufacturing wins with having ultra-tight unibody designs and stuff like that. But isn’t the ability to swap out a battery / SSD or upgrade some RAM, or even replace a screen, more important?

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. Originally I was like “why are they still calling it M2, when it has double the performance. That has to be a new architecture surely.” Turns out it’s two M2s glued together. Of course performance is roughly double in parallel applications.
Why was Reddit allowed then? And it’s even stranger that this was a Vodafone gateway, when I’m not on Vodafone. When I checked which network I was on, it did not even seem to be Vodafone in my phone settings. Anyway, VPNs solve that problem. Seems like the “18+” content policy is applied arbitrarily.
It’s fascinating to think that it requires this effort to get manufacturers to agree on open standards…it’s blatantly obvious that tapping into a standardised or common ecosystem guarantees far more sucess than walled gardens. This is a simplified example, but if you are making a brand new device, say, via Kickstarter…and instead of connecting it via USB, you connect it with your own proprietary connector, that would be insane.
Yes, if you are Apple, you can pull stunts like that. And perhaps places like Razer think they can lock people into their products more, but I still think an open standard makes sense. You can add your own special stuff on top if you need to, I suppose.
(may I just add that I am one of those people who used computers when they were grey boxes and therefore RGB has never made any sense to me and Asrock’s initiative of releasing motherboards that are £100 cheaper just by leaving off RGB is huge to me!)
