FWIW, I think you’re right. All those people who were attracted to it because it was the closest publicly acceptable thing to real anarchism, or did not even think to describe themselves as anarchists, are now largely ideologically stranded. DSA and PSL are acceptably close in ideology, but lacking in diversity and breadth of thought.

Unfortunately, that level of tolerance and openness may have been the Achilles heel allowing all those weirdos to take the reins. It honestly reeks of psyops, but could go either way. Nowadays, I avoid even the small “L” term entirely for fear of being associated with fash freaks, even when I’d be technically correct to use it.

Occasionally I’ll leave a flippant reply, realize i was being kind of an ass, then delete it because I’ve realized leaving it up may be doing more harm than good in some way. That’s what downvotes are for IMO - it’s like the immune system of Lemmy, pruning off the unwanted shit.

I believe, though, that this post is about the phenomenon of people making a post (not just a comment), then the post accumulates hundreds of votes & comments and the creator of that post hits delete for whatever reason. Which sucks because that wipes the post as well as the comments.

This is something that needs to be fixed IMO. One theory is it’s done to collect training data, psychological or market research - something along those lines. This is one of those rare places on the web where authentic human responses from a diverse cross-section of people can be harvested. If deletion wipes out all of it, those responses are captured and gone from the internet before too many competing bots and indexers can get to them.

It has now been several hours since I spoke with Gam Gam about the banana water and she’s still quite pissed off about this. Right now she’s pacing back and forth, muttering about “peasant slop” and saying “back in my day, banana peels and quarts of hot water were ALWAYS in a 1:1 ratio” and also “I don’t know what’s going on with this country, WE’RE COOKED FAM” and “kids these days wouldn’t recognize a proper hot banana water even if it CRAWLED UP THEIR ASSHOLE AND DIED THERE”.
