because some people don’t think those are an end all be all solution even if they can identify the problem.

problem and solution are not tied together yet. right now we only have the problem. this poster is indicating that they aren’t sold on those being the solutions. there are many paths forward, it’s fair to not know which one is right yet.

hell, it’s more unreasonable to say you KNOW your solution will fix this. none of these economic systems have been successfully tested in large scale. they are all just theoretical. to change to a new one is scary and dangerous and must be done with much thought, consideration, and care.

  • there was a whole hell of a or more to maps than “waking along roads”. in fact, that was pretty much never a usage before cars. back then you walked roads you knew, roads with signs, or asked locals which turns to take. no one back then would take the time to make a map of their own town unless they were in a major city with many foreign travelers. remember, before the car 99% of people never left the town they were born in, and if they did they didn’t go far. everyone knew their own area and the people in it. if someone saw a parson they didn’t know that was often unusual and worthy of fear or suspicion.

maps were for unconquered lands. maps showed coasts and cliffs and forests. maps showed ports and currents and climates. they showed enemy positions they showed friendly taverns they showed where you weren’t welcomed.

maps are not useful when vague beyond sating curiosity. an imprecise map was the result of many many deaths at sea. a ship’s pilot back in the day (the navigator, kind of) would have a trove of maps and journals he inherited from The one he apprenticed under. some of those journals were the most valuable books in all human history. they created all international trade for centuries. these were basically very very long detailed turn by turn directions to get from Port to Port. like “depart from malaga Port heading 12.3 degrees west. there’s a warm current for miles north of there during the months of summer. avoid it.” things like that. they didn’t necessarily get all that caught up by the whole roundness thing. they did it all by hands measuring distance and direction. what they struggled with was the accurate keeping of time to use the sun and stars to determine angle and latitude. the curvature of the earth is really only a massive problem in making world maps. even a map of all of China is barely affected by the curvature. world maps have always been vague because they’re zoomed out too far to make out important details.

  • that would be a decent assumption to jump to if you didn’t know the real answer i guess…

sorceresses in the Witcher were largely discarded children that were sick or disfigured. they eventually use magic to “fix” their bodies. many of them are obsessive about thiz and use magic to be the most beautiful person in the room because of their disfigured past.

there is very little connection between high birth and being a sorceress in the Witcher. all of the specific examples we hear are of farm peasents being scooped up just to take the burden off their parent’s hands.

this is a bleak story, many of the sorcerers and sorceresses in it are at Best morally grey. it is not beyond most of them to take that child and experiment on them if they don’t have the aptitude for magic. they are also sterile. much like witchers, they must take in outsiders to propagate.

unless the show has its own lore or something. IDK i stopped watching after season 2 was completely its own story, unrelated to the books at all.

  • recent shows that were way worse than the manga: faraway paladin, helck.

anime famous for this issue: berserk, tokyo ghoul, any Junji ito project

popular older anime that have this issue that aren’t as talked about: blue exorcist (though that one’s currently getting a retcon heavy sequel) trigun (the new 3d series is way more manga accurate) honestly… mostly any 90s-2000s action series. they were really caught in the weekly production aspect of it and it led to terrible pacing and tons of filler. things have gotten better.

like, one piece is terrible to watch straight. i can’t recommend anyone actually slog through what the anime was doing during dreserosa. watch the one pace fan edit, or read the manga.

Naruto is another one that got horribly butchered. especially at the end. straight up, as soon as the infinite tsukiyomoi starts, just switch to the manga for like 10 chapters, then go back to the anime. it’ll save you OVER 100 EPISODES. you can’t even just skip them as filler either. they just took each panel and stretched it into an entire arc. that means that there’s still important shit happening that you can’t actually miss… it’s horrible. they just couldn’t let it die. they wrung that shit out like a dirty wash cloth. shameful.

adaptation is hard. you can’t truly capture every last detail of a manga in an anime. it also leads to things that make more sense in manga pacing coming through a but funny at times. for example, this is largely where the whole giant anime attack thing comes from. in manga, that build up tension for a free pages then there’s like one giant full page glorious piece of art showing a single punch connect. that’s just how manga moves. that’s why some people really anime original action series. the action is likely to be more dynamic and fluid. take cowboy bebop for example. that action would’ve translated terribly into manga. it’s to small, to precise, too fast, and moves too much. that’s why it’s really worthy of praise when they go above and beyond to make something really work well.

hell, sometimes you can even make something completely different that people still like. take the shining or Lord of the rings for example. most people don’t even realize how incredibly different lotr is in the movie from the books. the movies have a much much broader appeal be kinda almost sorta inverting the message of the books and pissing all over their intent. they’re supposed to be anti war stories that show how horrible war is and that there is no honor to be found in it. there is only chaos and carnage and loss. the heroes aren’t bold and brave and strong. they’re terrified and panicked and none of them want to be there. none of the battle scenes are long or detailed. that’s all the movies. there are no great victories. they only ever barely escape the ever encroaching enemy at a great loss and with much remorse.

the movies are action adventure films about Big strong heroes triumphing over the bad guys. that’s almost the opposite of what Tolkien wanted. and yet, they’re so popular. like, are the movies bad? no. they’re great movies that are tremendously entertaining and captured my heart and soul as a child.

I don’t have the energy to go into the shining the same way anymore… but my point is, adaptation is tricky. you’ll never make everyone happy and maybe that doesn’t matter.

  • I once got food delivered to a work site and it took like 15 minutes of go the last mile. Slowly walking all the way up the entrance drive to this place (it was a museum on the waterfront with like 1/2 mile of driveway before the parking lot) turns or he blew a tire and decided to walk it the last mile because he was almost there.

I felt so bad. He should’ve just looked after himself… I’m guessing the app would’ve punished him with a suspension or something if he failed to deliver though. Wanted to tip more after all that, but there was no option to posthumously raise the tip in app and I wasn’t carrying cash.

Guess that’s what happens when your boss is a robot.

  • but the problem is that we need to do both. we’re not blameless, and throwing our hands up and doing nothing because they won’t either is incredibly not helpful.

just like when voting, individual action may feel pointless and hard, but it’s still necessary. we can still do things and make choices, but everyone is just giving up now because of this feeling…

of course corporations are polluting more, but so are we, and we can still force change through consumer action. just like conservatives are dumb for bitching about companies “catering to the left” when it’s actually just the same things they always have and always will do: cater to the average. if more of us would stop and think "huh, this product uses less packaging, maybe that should be a factor in my purchasing decision."these companies would start using less packaging. but no, most people just open something over packaged, and either don’t notice, or shake their heads for a moment and comment on the plastic waste before buying the same thing again next time…

we can’t be defeated by the inaction of others. if we do, then even their action won’t be meaningful if/when it comes. it’s going to take more than just one side…

  • it’s neither, it just lowers inhibition. so when you have that random thought like “what if i slapped that guy” you’re just not going to stop yourself. that doesn’t make you a good or bad person, everyone has different things going on in their head. what matters is the thoughts and actions we listen to and let live. like, no one is right all the time, but alcohol will make you feel like you are. leads to mistakes.

in this case I think it’s obvious that Rudy didn’t really feel that way, if anything he’s just confused and rejecting the “maybe you just need to go it the long and hard way” speech that he just got. that was him grasping at straws “no, it’s not because I’m emotionally damaged and need to work on that, she’s just got too small titties!” which if he wasn’t drunk, i think he’s now mature enough to think about and realize obviously isn’t the answer either. even if he was that shallow, all his other interests have had small breasts. like, it’s so completely untrue that he couldn’t be doing anything other than drunkenly trying to drown out the sad thought without thinking.
