Define “loosely”. You really think there’s more than maybe 3 or 4 states that’d have a chance to sustain themselves on their own? And if a bunch of states would stick together against the others, you’ve got civil war reloaded. With drones, nukes, and blackhawks. Fun times.

I’m not so sure about that, they studied Starbucks’ quasi-monopoly for quite some time and then decided to beat them with better coffee.

So at least they had a plan, unlike KFC with their “me too” approach. That stuff is so bad I’ll rather risk headaches on a 10h flight than to refuel with that garbage.

McDonald’s coffee is much better than Starbucks. Still not great, but better.

The issue is that the USD is the main trade currency in the world, and all transactions in USD need to be cleared by banks in the US. Since Cuba is banned from trading in USD, they need to trade directly in their import/export partners home currency, which exposes them to additional currency fluctuations, and complicates the whole settlement process.

Would be even better in relation to population and annual consumption.
