I agree.
The API changes? Really not that big of a deal.
But, how it was handled, with the fake-ass “community” outreach? Followed by treating everyone as “noise” Yea. Fuck that guy.

After his really disappointing AMA on reddit, I really don’t want him to do an AMA here.
Didn’t answer a single question. Just copy and pasted from an answer sheet for a few very, very easy questions, which were likely staged.
strawmanning the left, especially on gun rights
When you look at it from an external point of view- neither side is actually helping the gun rights segment.
Both repubs and democrats are slowly whittling away rights and freedoms, including gun rights.
Another, of the viewpoints I don’t agree with-
Pure libertarianism- means no federal government at all. No military. If people wanted a military, they would pay a company for it, etc.
I also don’t agree with that.
I retain my ability for self-thinking, and also, conclude none of the popular ideologies are perfect. They all have faults.
I don’t follow the 100% libertarian approach, which basically says, companies can do whatever the hell they want. (And, consumers vote with their pockets… etc…)
If- that is what you were hinting at.
That would be nice.
BUT… everyone is all too busy picking sides (between the left, and the right, ie, liberal / conservative)… despite both sides eroding away freedoms, and blaming the other side for all of their problems.
Why?
Seemed fun to do. Wanted to support something that gets people away from reddit.
How did I pay for it? I have a miniature datacenter in my house, complete with redundant power. Hosting lemmy is a drop in the bucket as far as my resources are concerned. As such, there really isn’t a measured cost for it. The infrastructure was already there and running, and lemmy doesn’t consume much of it.
I don’t take donations.
I am libertarian.
Less government. Less rules. Less restrictions.
I don’t give a rats ass if you want to smoke pot, get abortions. etc. I support individual rights and freedoms.
Having used it for years, its amazing. I would highly recommend it.
Agreed. But- what also helps a lot- is others pitching in development time to assist the project.
One thing that can also help dramatically- Is posting bounties on specific features.
Say- lots of users want… a certain feature. Well- github allows posting bounties for things such as that. So- that would entice other developers to work on said features too.
If, you want to support the lemmy developers, they have a donations page HERE. To note, they are working FULL TIME on this project, as is my understanding, and donations are one of the only ways they are putting food on the table currently.
If, you want to support the lemmy infrastructure (ie, the servers running the instance you are connected to), check your server’s sidebar and see if they accept donations. You may also contact the admins for your particular instance.
In the case of my server, for example- I do not accept donations. Donations, in my past experiences, leads to expectations between parties changing.
If I had 1 million in hand-
I am willing to bet the dealership could get me in and out pretty quickly!
Likewise, I have a friend selling a house. I am quite certain we can make a bill of sale in an hour.
But- since those options are off-limits. Honestly- there really aren’t many options.
Since, its cash-in-hand, that likely means online transactions are against the rules.
SO- the best course of action would be to visit a store with a lot of expensive goodies. In my case, walmart is the best local option. Suppose I could buy out all of the TVs, game systems, etc. At least those would have the best resale value.
“You got mail”
phpBB forums, with special titles and ranks. Cause- having colorful ranks under your name was cool at that time.
Cloudflare currently.
Have used Google, Amazon, namecheap too.
Just. Don’t use godaddy
Hah!
It’s a small world, what are the odds.
For votes to work, the data of who voted where has to be tracked.
Karma is just a matter of adding numbers together.
I think the data can be useful for anti spam reasons
Because there is no karma system on lemmy
Not- actually accurate- There IS a karma system. I can lookup your overall post karma, both positive and negative. I can lookup your comment karma. Separated by positive and negative.
Its just not exposed through the Lemmy UI currently. I will note, kbin does who is upvoting and downvoting posts as well.
Wife is playing spyro. Kids are play roblox. And I am ready to play this.
And… upgraded. Thanks!
