This illustrates more clearly what the previously seen safety nets are for! It has a plastic “roof”, prompted by the upstairs neighbour smoking out of his window, dropping down ashes and even the occasional cigarette butt. This roof is what became of the plastic table cloth that I initially bought as a curtain btw 😄

I would replace the bird netting with a metal equivalent like chicken wire or deer fencing. It’ll last longer and but have the risk of you furry friend falling.
The netting is reinforced with wire, purpose-made for protecting cats and the most robust product I’ve found in this category. In the two years I’ve had it, my cat hasn’t made a single attempt at damaging it, but she wouldn’t stand a chance. P.S. you were probably confusing the thinner netting (that is for flower beds) with the actual protective one. The thin stuff is only placed in there to make it look & feel more secure for her, which actually worked. She was very cautious initially, but I realized the board also had a slight slope outwards, which I corrected by putting thin boards on the holders underneath.
You have far more faith in your pet’s instinct for self-preservation than I ever could place in any animal. Lol. Very cool, and I’m sure they love it
Why though? She does love it, and it’s a very secure build - I spent a lot of time and effort making sure. She has fallen out from a window before, it was terrible and I’m not risking that again.
I’m sorry if my comment came across as disparaging to your build - that was not my intention! It does look very sturdy. My former roommate had two cats that were absolute balls of chaos, one of them would almost certainly be trying to chew her way through the screen. My dog is way too big for something like this, but her personality would cause her to launch herself full-force into it at the first sight of motion outside.
I’m sorry to hear she has taken a fall in the past, it’s good to see that she seems to have made a good recovery and isn’t afraid to still enjoy windows.
That’s awesome! Thankyou for sharing :)
