I don’t get the separation between humans and animal. Like saying “it takes nothing away from a dog to be kind to animals.”
Human is a kind of animal. Like a giraffe or a rhinoceros.
I agree that in general we too often seperate humans from our status as members of the animal kingdom. Though, in this quote it’s generally clear that it’s referring to non-human animals
