Give me a 10% discount on everything and I use them. I you don’t, what is my motivation to use them? So they can fire part of their workers, replace them with a computer and keep the wages?
TBH: They are pretty rare where I’m from (Germany).
To answer your question: I don’t want to work in any other job than my current one, because I like it.
I’m from Germany. Compared to the USA, the cashiers here are not forced to stand the whole day. Lots of my frieds worked in that job when they were at school or university. Not a bad job IMO…
I’m introverted and don’t use them…

I use them because it’s faster, I don’t have to stress about the person behind me and don’t have to deal with people. They’re bliss
What a sad world we live in, where less work is actually bad for the workers :c
Do you actually want to work as a cashier? If not, why do you want our society stuck in a state where such jobs need to be performed?
Universal basic income and automate everything.
What’s wrong with being a cashier?

Sounds good. Too good to become true.
Being a chashier is mind-numbingly boring. If you enjoy that kind of work, good for you, but I’d rather not.
If progress is not possible, we’re doomed anyway. Demographics and climate change will bite our collective ass.
Of course not - that’s why I don’t use the self service tills. I don’t work for the supermarket and I’m not beeping my own damn shopping.
Not everyone wants a career or an interesting job. Many people just want to work some hours and earn some money and that’s fine.
I don’t know in which region in Germany you live, but self checkout is quite common in my region and I love it.
In my area, LIDL, EDEKA and a third one don’t have them. Only ALDI has them here.
But I don’t doubt that they all want to establish this, because it’s cheaper for them.
