How do you set up to receive RSS feeds on your phone?
A defining point in Internet history for that matter. This is like the Digg exodus. A paradigm shift in social media. It isn’t often that we see mass migrations of Internet users from one platform to another.
This will surely delight future digital anthropologists in their chronological studies of the Internet. We just gotta make sure our archives can last for generations.
Hello future historians!
That’s great! I think we’re at a stage of the Internet where companies are grasping ever tighter. But as Princess Leia said, “The more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.”
As much as I hate downvoting to disagree in principle, I will be downvoting that thread out of principle.
It’s the social media equivalent of KDE and Gnome.
With KDE being kbin in this analogy because they both have the letter k in it. Logic.
I’ve got an idea. Since during the sign up phase we answer questions, so why not add a question that poses a hypothetical scenario where the prospective member can answer in their own words what they would do in that scenario.
The scenario can be crafted to gauge someone’s kindness, even if there are no right or wrong answers. For example, we can have the question be:
“Can you share an example of a recent action you took to make someone’s day better?”
Or:
“Tell me about a time when you offered assistance or support to someone in need.”
Or:
“Could you describe a situation where you went out of your way to show empathy or understanding to someone?”
Trolls and ne’er-do-wells are not as likely to give detailed, thoughtful answers to these sorts of questions.
This way it provides an additional way to screen applications so nice people migrate here.
Back when I was in college, the local Hare Krishnas would make and sell outdoor lunches (channa mainly). My favorite part was the salad dressing, it was absolutely amazing. I was able to find a recipe for it on Reddit but I haven’t tried making it myself.
Wait… So you don’t SLAM that subscribe button whenever a YouTuber tells you to?
They don’t want you to read, they want you to scroll.
It’s like they don’t understand what Reddit fundamentally is: a forum. It isn’t Instagram or Facebook. But they really want it to be because you can fit a lot of ads in that format.
From a cultural perspective, I found the Mayan counting system to be quite intuitive for a base-20 system. We’re used to base 10 or base 60 (clocks) so it’s interesting to think how that number system evolved in their society. Having five fingers probably helps.
Found some blogs tucked away here and there that are interesting:
McMansion Hell - All about horrendous modern housing styles
Things I Won’t Work With - A chemistry blog that is quite hilarious. Sadly there hasn’t been new one of these for years.
I can’t think of others off the top of my head. For the longest time I was usually either on Reddit or Wikipedia.
Thanks! It’s quite rare to get a 4 character username of any kind these days. I have an irrational worry that future generations won’t be able to have common usernames in general because they’ve all been taken up already.
I prefer the name coined in /r/NonCredibleDefense for this mega NATO:
Pacific-Oceanic Trans-Atlantic Treaty Organization
Or POTATO for short 🥔
If that’s the case, I’m surprised the lemmygrad server doesn’t use the .su top-level domain. I’m not even sure if those domain names can be purchased for it since the origin country no longer exists.
A gay succulent is plenty juicy 😋
Perhaps more than just the US military. A strong international coalition is needed that seeks to preserve the rules-based international order that was established in the aftermath of World War II. That being that countries can’t just invade other countries without expecting severe consequences. Ideally the UN would fill this role but I think it might be up to NATO and its non-NATO allied states. We are in a time where democracies are at odds with authoritarian regimes, and I feel like the only way we can prevent dictator-driven wars is to have an international military coalition that is strong enough to make them think that attacking other nations is a bad idea.
Walk softly and carry a big stick. Fleet in Being doctrine. A big paddle that has the word “No” on it. You get the picture.
That was initially my first move. So far though, Beehaw feels the most like old Reddit, both in tone and community feel.
More friends! 😄
