  • This is a really contrived hypothesis and probably wishful thinking considering the current state of the world, but hear me out:

You know how the Overton window gets shifted? Rightwing voters grew a lot in the US and Democrats had to get more to the right to appeal to them and not keep losing.

We just need to force the reverse. If Democrats keep winning elections Republicans will be forced to put out a candidate that’s more palatable to leftists sooner or later. Someone who isn’t a literal movie villain. At that point, Democrats will lose their only selling point (being the alternative to Satan himself), and they will have to actually push for leftist policies to get people to vote.

This can only happen if Democrats win a lot of times in a row though. Even one Republican win will ensure them that they can keep pushing fascists and have a chance to win.

  • Well, a lot of the commenters here didn’t even know his name. I read about him once but all my brain registered is “the change my mind guy is an asshole”, his actual name flew out of my mind almost immediately.

I think the people calling it “the Stephen Crowder meme format” are in the absolute minority.

The only ones I know involve the protagonist going to a post-apocalyptic future, like 7 Seeds or in a sense Dr.Stone, or from the past to our present like Thermae Romae. I don’t think there’s any real series from the present to a Cyberpunk/Sci-Fi future, the only one I know of is a hentai (I heard the plot is actually decent, but it’s still porn in the end).

It’s from AnimeMaru, which is (was?) basically the Anime Onion.

However, “Mukuwarenakatta Murabito A, Kizoku ni Hirowarete Dekiai sareru Ue ni, Jitsu wa Motteita Densetsu-kyuu no Kami Skill mo Kakusei shita” (The Villager Who Was Abandoned, Was Picked Up by an Aristocrat and Awakened a Legendary Divine Skill) is an actual series which has an anime announced.

  • I think we’re just entering semantics at this point. “Agnostic” has been used plenty of times as a position in itself separate from “Atheist”: even Thomas H. Huxley, who created the term, saw it as a specifically distinct thing from atheism, and so did Darwin and Ross at the time.

You can indeed have middle ground on beliefs, and the term has been invented for that exact reason: Huxley didn’t feel like he fit in any of the definitions that existed at the time.

  • Not really: the meme is mocking people who say they can’t find dates because they are conservative, like these ones (opinion piece but cites sources). So it’s just aimed at people who already “put themselves in boxes”. If they didn’t the whole meme falls apart, since it’s based on a “discrimination” and you have to be aware of what about you is being “discriminated” to complain about it.

  • Wikipedia defines Agnosticism as:

the view or belief that the existence of God, of the divine or the supernatural is unknown or unknowable.

It is not related to actual knowledge. No matter the claims one can make, no one can be 100% sure whether a god exists or not. It’s called “faith” because people choose to believe despite the lack of irrefutable evidence.

Belief, on the other hand, is definitely a spectrum and you can be convinced or skeptical of affirmations from both sides. There’s also apatheists that simply don’t care whether it exists or not, or Ignostics that question the question itself. There’s plenty of people “on the fence”. The definition of Nontheism for example encompasses all those three, but not Atheism.

Agnostic Atheism is a position that’s very close to Atheism, but not all Agnostics are Agnostic Atheists.
