I swear, these are every bit as dumb as maga’s conspiracy theories. If that’s where they wanted the flag for the picture, why didn’t they just start with the flag there? Why lower it just in time? Was the Qanon flag lowering operator on the radio with the photographer coordinating the position and timing? Or, just maybe, big-ass flags that are suspended from cranes by only the top two corners just kind of move up and down in the wind.

Do you really believe that the same stupid motherfuckers who ended up having a press conference at Four Seasons Total Landscaping were capable of staging an assassination attempt where two other people actually died and the only gap in their performance was a ham-fisted flag maneuver for the photo op?

Sounds like you’re describing sympathy, not empathy. Empathy doesn’t require compassion and it doesn’t require forgiveness.

The main thesis of this entire comment section is the vital importance of empathizing, but not necessarily sympathizing, with those who have crossed any line of social or moral depravity to better understand what led them there. Just saying “they’re monsters by some inherent flaw of character that I couldn’t possibly possess and they don’t deserve to live” is just sweeping the problem under the rug and denying its potential in every other person.

Have we still learned nothing about enshittification? This implication of this graph is that there’s an entire generation of people being raised right now who won’t be able to do jack shit without depending on AI. These companies don’t need to be profitable right now, because once they’re completely entrenched in the workflows and thought processes of millions of people, they can charge whatever they want. Accuracy and usefulness are secondary to addiction and dependency. If you can afford to amass power and ubiquity first, all the profit you can imagine will come later.

  • It’s almost difficult to believe Kant wasn’t just pulling a Schrödinger and proposing a ridiculous thought experiment to illustrate the absurdity of genuinely holding those views.

The idea that morality exists only as an intrinsic quality of an action, regardless of context or consequence, is more theology than philosophy. It’s useless to the point of harm to anyone faced with a world beyond a university or a monastery.
