

I wrote SDS for commercial products in the late 2000s and that sure was a rude awakening to the “there are no grownups” realization I think people go through when they realize the people in charge aren’t there for their knowledge and oversight 😅
Well shit, so much for my believe in proper safety data. Admittedly, your point is just one more data point in a direction I don’t particularly like.
I tried to check how the regulation is in the EU, but I couldn’t find a direct explanation if the ingredient as used during the mixing stage is to be given or as present in the mixture. The wording I found always just mentioned ingredients. I mean, I agree with you, it makes more sense to have the present form written down, if known. As example: Acetate anhydride is fucking toxic as hell, mixed in water its acetic acid and non toxic. I just thought there might have been a legal reason that overrides it.
And it seems they either agree with you or changed now completely to the dihydrate version, as the newest SDS I found has the same ingredient for both versionsbof the product.
And your example with sodium bisulfite is really angering me. Offgassing is exactly one of those properties that can lead to accidents if people don’t realise its happening. I checked a German SDS for this salt and it also only said that it is offgassing with acids. Seems everybody copies everybody there…
So I take it it’s the same as in uni days: ask people who worked with it before to get more reliable info about the handling. And adjust for the personal safety standards that person has.




Wrong wording from my side, I meant an aquatic solution of the salt. Not the puresalt as solid.
