Could someone explain??
I’m thinking it’s something about putting profits before quality, a very American thing. Either that or it’s about porn.
You’re not wrong. It’s about western influence in general. Low quality, ugly and political shows.
I guess it could affect porn (Hentai) as well…
Define political
Pushing agendas, saying who’s good who’s bad etc.
Can you name some examples? Or some animes that dont do that?
one concrete example please
Considering (while still small) censorship that’s already going on, people are afraid it might get way worse with meddling of big wester companies. It’s hard to think differently when you see what kind of shows for example Disney produces. Most of them are flops.
If Disney or HBO or AS buys out large anime studies I think it’s highly probable they are going to produce something like idk for example recent Scooby Doo reboot. (Or Velma spinoff, I don’t think it even had Scooby in it) I saw one episode. It was hard to watch your childhood being ruined by this slop. It has everything I mentioned before, ugliness, agenda, low quality corporate attempt to make money on people’s nostalgia.
If they’d buy right for some old anime series for sure they would make a reboot nobody asked for while destroying everything people loved about the series.
Maybe I’m overreacting but I look at gaming side and see abominations like Concord are being made and just feel hopeless. The issue with that line of thought is that those pieces of media were garbage regardless of political intent.
Pushing a certain line of thought didnt make them bad, they were bad regardless of their intent.
Well thanks for letting us know you have next to 0 media literacy.
I don’t live in America. I find it fascinating how much American media prioritises entertainment value over actual accurate news
A very good example would be how covid was portrayed over there during the start of the pandemic
Yes, Japanese manga NEVER tell you who is good and who is bad.
Do you even read what you write yourself or is that a reflex nowadays where your brain isn’t even involved anymore?
I think it’s about bad or unfaithful American adaptations of Japanese anime. Death Note and Dragon Ball didn’t go down well with the fan base.
Ok but those were like 20 years ago, that’s more the “before” this meme is referring to. These days, popular anime has dubs that come out only a few days after the Japanese version is released. I haven’t heard any complaints about the quality, but then again I’m not big into anime these days.
7 and 15 years ago respectively. But regardless, how would dubs be considered fixing?
Death note released with English dubs between 2007 and 2009, that’s 15 years minimum.
Dragonball had several dubs attempted in the 90’s, but the version that stuck and is the one most people remember watching on cartoon Network was between 2001 and 2003, that’s 21 years minimum.
Where are you getting 7 and 15? Also, what do you mean by “fixing”? Where did that come up in the conversation at all? This is about western companies taking an interest in anime “before” vs “now”, not about fixing anything. You brought up unfaithful adaptions for western audiences, which can only refer to dubs as it’s not like the animation was changed.
- Fixing: that’s the title of the post
- adaptations that fans didn’t like: I’m not talking about dubbing at all. I mean full-on Western adaptations, such as:
Ah, I understand my confusion now. I had completely memory-holed the string of live-action movie adaptions 😂
What anime is that?
