I feel like its judgemental of them to mention her single status though.
If you like international and eclectic news, come and join me at @worldwithoutus (Link for Lemmy = worldwithoutus).
I’ve also started helping out at @worldnews, (Link for Lemmy = worldnews), @movies, (Lemmy = movies), and am a ghost at @13thfloor (Lemmy = 13th Floor).
I feel like its judgemental of them to mention her single status though.
@OttoVonNoob definitely not all communities have the same audience.
I mod a community on kbin and a few days ago I had this weird phenomenon where someone was crossposting literally all our content to their own community on lemm.ee, which I was also subbed to.
Anyway I looked at the upvotes and it’s not the same people upvoting both posts.
Great. The ocean’s going crazy over a human goldfish.
Thanks @itslilith that makes sense!
@BartsBigBugBag what was the original? My brain is trying to fill in the gaps but keeps coming up with “Mutilated People”.
@PhlubbaDubba thanks, that’s interesting. Scary too.
@OurToothbrush no problem; thanks for pointing out to me that I was wrong!
@OurToothbrush interesting idea but no, to be candid, I’ve reached the limit point of my interest in these details. I only learned about it as a byproduct of spending time in Hungary, and that was over a decade ago.
I’ve edited my comments and crossed out my errors so they don’t mislead anybody.
I would suggest if you do want to actually educate people, it might be more effective if you post what you know to be the sequence of events, and some suggestions for further reading.
@OurToothbrush oops deleted wrong comment. You and are having this exact exchange in 2 places and I only want to have it in one.
I’m trying to call Rákosi a Stalinist. He led the Stalinist govt in Hungary at that time I thought and I’m pretty sure he asked Kruschev to send in the tanks. The “Destalinization” leader got deposed by him.
My history on all this is rusty as hell though.
@OurToothbrush oops you’re right, it was some of the Stalinists who succeded him. Have edited, thanks for educating me in such a polite way!
Edit this entire conversation takes place twice in this thread, to avoid spamming I’m replying to them elsewhere. Tl;dr is the tankies think Kruschev and the Stalinist Hungarian, Rákosi, did nothing wrong.
@LtLiana No I think it was coined to describe communists in the west who were down with the Stalinist government led by Rákosi [edit, whoever the old hardliners were in Hungary and whoever it was in the USSR under Kruschev] sending tanks to subdue Hungary. Wikipedia on Hungarian uprising for those who want to know more.
Tankies generally are still Stalinism apologists, among other things. I don’t think it has changed that much.
These days they just have a whole lot more egregious totalitarianism to be apologists for.
@backhdlp the term was invented to describe those communists in the West who thought Rákosi (a Hungarian Stalinist) [edit: whoever it was, there’s a communist historian correcting me downthread] did nothing wrong when he and Kruschev sent military tanks into Hungary to force them to stay in the Soviet Union. That was in the 1950s.
@LtLiana puzzled by this comment. “Tankies” have been around since long before most people on reddit were even born.
Good point, the more presents you get the better you must be. It’s also about choices. Evil children choose to be born to poor parents. /s
Now you’ve got me thinking about it, they distribute those products incredibly unevenly, with most presents going to the wealthy and middle class, in wealthy nations.
It’s definitely not progressive. Also there’s the bullying over (nose) colour that has historically gone on there, with leadership turning a blind eye.
So confused by this because I thought Santa owned that particular means of production by himself.
I remember being young and thinking middle-aged people are staring at me because they want me /they disapprove/whatever.
Now I’m middle aged myself, I know the staring is way more likely to either be something along the lines of “ah that kid is so 90s, I never had that green colour but blue Fudge used to wash out to green like that…”
Or “have we run out of natural yoghurt, we bought that 500ml pottle last week but we had curry twice, maybe I should get some more…”
